What exactly is Mess? Is it basically the same as mame? How is it different?

If it runs all kinds of different consoles why do most use specific emulators rather than mess?
as you probably found out mess uses mame core but emulates computers and consoles.
mame emulates only arcade machines.
why do people use other emus if mess can do all systems that ever existed?
well the answer is easy - other emulators can be better in emulating that specific platform
lot's of platforms in mess are still experimental or beta

So who here uses Mess, and Why?
you have list of prefered emulators in hyperlaunch.ahk script
mess is used in atari 5200 and some other platforms
i used it a little for zx spectrum, bbc micro, and c64 emulations
it is great to practice some programing for kids in basic:
10 let a=10
20 a=a+1
30 print a
run
does this ring a bell for anyone? or am i too old :)
