freeze on startup, windows 7 64-bit

I have hyperspin installed with latest patches and the free video pack. It is configured for MAME only.

If I boot windows up, then manually start hyperspin, I have no problems.

If I start hyperspin when the machine boots up by putting a shortcut into the windows startup folder, hyperspin starts up, but I am unable to switch games or start a game. It feels like the keyboard is not working.

Clicking the mouse one time will allow keyboard input to function normally.

Any ideas on how to fix this? Thanks

This is usually cause by another window being open, the other window opens behind HS and becomes the main window. Try using alt+tab to find out if there is in fact another window open.

Make sure you update to 1.2 exe, there was a bug that produced those symptoms.
