My friends are more console happy than I am. On a recent visit I had a chance to play the new sequel to Galaga, and the champ version of Pacman.
Galaga Legions has the first major graphic overhaul. Your no longer stuck on a horizontal plain. The legions of alien bugs come from all directions, and they come numerous. You have two support ships that you can dispatch in different directions to thwart the attack on all sides. For such a major change, I found this to be highly addictive. The music is remixed and fits well. I ended up being impressed and have considered buying a console to play it.
Pacman Championship Edition looks very much like the original accpet, it now supports 16:9 gameplay. The pellets are not all displayed. The fruit has a new function. Each fruit opens up now sections of pellets. However, I didn't have much time to invest into playing it. I was also told by friends that now you can have multiplayer, where one friend is pacman, and your friends can be ghosts. Sounds evil. Since sometimes ghosts can be stupid.
So has anybody else played these games?
[btw, first post. Nice to meet you all]

Bought both on the xbox live 360.
Pacman Champ Edition: It's a gem and imho the best example of how to bring forth a classic to the modern era. It was done by the same dude (and his team) who did the original Pacman and it shows.
Galaga Legions: haven't played enough of it yet, but I like it, though it does go to the "fill the screen with enemies" mantra which many don't like. Still, the one thing I did really think they nailed that brought respect to the original game is the emphasis on the enemy attack pattern. via the advance warning. I've not seen any reviews that alluded to this and yet that's where I think Galaga Legions really ties well into the old game. Difficult to explain you have to try it for yourself to understand.

I agree bent98, a pc version would be nice. All this talk about virtual arcades, such games would be a nice addition to REAL arcades. I know that I saw recent videos of TGS08 of retro games getting overhauls.
I forgot to mention these along with the original two.
R-type dimensions (tba)
Arkanoid Live (tba 2009)
Asteroids deluxe (out)
Space Invaders Extreme (out on xbla, psp, and ds)
Again. A bunch of really good returns of old favs not in an arcade cab. While one might argue that the price outweights the point, with multiple titles in one cabinet, I think it has potential to be profitable. Just stick a cab like this somewhere where some Dad has to wait while his wife is shopping, and it practically sells itself.
Microsoft is releasing their xb360 in arcades (or perhaps gamestops), it is called the Arcade Station T2 http://kotaku.com/5042804/xbox-360-goes-arcade-for-reals. I am iffy about the controls, however it is still a good idea. The link shows game that I suppose are cool, but the aforementioned would be just as fitting.

A long time ago, I'd read that MS had the intention of porting over Xbox Live Arcade to their PC version of Live. I haven't heard a peep since then but I'd like it for the cab :).

I love PacMan CE, but haven't picked up Galaga yet. I really wish these would come out on PC and be cab friendly.

It looks like all that XBL to PC talk was last year. Maybe they found issue with it on the PC? I.e. people will just hack and dump the XBL games on piratebay or something.
