i have a few questions about setting up zinc....

1. is hyperlaunch required to be on?
2. is pc game required to be on?

also wanted to confirm this info i gathered from varoius posts on the forum:

-rom names need to be renamed to the #'s on bbb xml list
-no frontend wrapper is used just the zinc.exe

what i see when trying to start a zinc game is, the dos window comes up and then goes away and then returns to the zinc game selection screen.

any info would be great,

thx,
magostin

well this is how I just got this damn emulator to work:
I put ZiNc v1.1 and the ZiNc OpenGL and D3D renderers 1.2 in the Zinc folder
C:\HyperSpin\Emulators\ZiNc

Roms are named just like I got them:
Example: sfex.zip
I guess it doesn't matter how they are named, It doesn't have to be the number zinc is naming it.

After I got all the roms I put them in the roms folder:
C:\HyperSpin\Emulators\ZiNc\roms

After that I get Aldo's Zinc Frontend 2.2
Dump ZincFE2.exe in with the Zinc emulator and run it. Goto Setup and uncheck the Use settings per game. This will make a default config file instead each game having it's own config file. Next mess with the settings you feel is best with the game like Full screen (Highly Reccomend it), video settings, controls and sound. Play the games with this frontend first to see if they even work. After that exit out of the fronend, it should have made the cfg files you need for hyperspin.

After that you go into your Zinc config settings for hyperspin and change them like this

[exe info]
path = C:\HyperSpin\Emulators\Zinc\
rompath = C:\HyperSpin\Emulators\Zinc\roms\
userompath = true
exe = zinc.exe
hyperlaunch = true
romextension =
parameters =
pcgame = false
pcgameextension =
winstate = HIDDEN

This is how it works for me. Try it out if you want. I still need to see if the controls and settings are correct in my jamma cabinet. Good luck!

I tried using ZincFE2.exe and got it working but everytime I set the controls to match my cab they dont stick?

I even went in the config and changed the controls and still it dont work :banghead:

So i decided to use ZiNcGUI.exe and everything works sweet but it dont work in Hyperspin all I get is a black screen :banghead:

can some heeeeeelp!

with the black screen can you still hear sound?
add credits and listen for the sound.
if you hear sound the screen is probably minimized and hidden...

i think you just have to hit alt & enter to switch to full screen.

then it will always be fullscreen from now on.

i had this issue myself and remember resolving it this way.

ps.

also, ive realized most emu's need to be configured outside of hyperspin for the settings to stay!

found that out last night wile setting up my new cab.

Thebutcherjb - I just noticed that romextension= is blank. Is this the trick to getting Zinc to working?

BRB - going to test.

Zinc is ran like this

Zinc.exe 12

Or zinc.exe 5

Zinc has a internal gamelist and you launch the games by thier number on the list. not by romname
eg
zinc.exe gamename.zip or zinc.exe gamename

Test failed... According to the log it is now sending the rom number correctly. Which is more than what I was getting before. However, it appears like it is going to launch and then drops back to HyperSpin in about 2 seconds.

Zinc has never been one of my favorite emulators, so I've never really learned to use it. I have setup everything via ZincGUI and all games work fine. I just can't seem to get them to run via HS.

Weird we had zinc running perfect, its easy like any other emu. Lemme run some tests real quick.

If you are running ZINC without HL hyperspin will want to add the "." even without specifying a rom filter..eg zip

so it will try and run Zinc.exe 5.

which will be wrong.

Finalburn had the same issue

I think I have figured it out... I just ran Zinc.exe from a command line and I am getting the following:

ERROR: cannot open renderer plugin

How do I tell Zinc what renderer to use? I can get it to run if I specify --renderer=3d3_renderer.znc

I got it... I had to rename the renderer that I wanted to use to "renderer.znc". This sets that renderer to the default renderer so it doesn't have to be specified in the command line.

All is working perfectly fine now. Woo hoo!

Hey dazz

How did you get the controls set up correctly with zinc. What do you mean you renamed it renderer.znc. Can you post all your information for zinc so i may take a look at it.
