Well I have begun construction of a cabinet and I really wanted to have everything in it start by the press of a button, I was going to wire my pc power button to another button on the outside of the cab. So I bought my self a energy saving power strip that automatically turns things on and off based on what is plugged into the "master outlet" on the strip, but it turns out that my pc power supply has a on/off switch on the back and unfortunately the power strip reads that as the master control switch.

I would like to be able to have it so that when my pc turns on, the light for the marquee, monitor, and speakers would all turn on to, and then when it shuts down all of these things turn off as well.

Has anyone else had this issue:confused: is there anyway to turn of the power supply automatically when the pc shuts down?

The switch on the back of the power supply is only used to turn your pc off and don't want it turned back on. That always stays on and will not affect the smart power strip. You only have to plug your pc into the master control port on your strip.

My PSU also has that switch (as just about every PSU these days do), and does not interfere at all with the strip detecting the pull of power, which is how they work.

what type of power strip do you have? this is the one I have:

(can't link yet need 5 posts :argh:)

and it does not work that way the only way it will turn off the other things is if the switch on the back of the psu is turned off

If that is the case then you might still having something running in your pc after it is off. Have you tested it with something like a lamp plugged into the master control outlet? This is pretty basic electrical principles at work here. As long as there is no power running through the master outlet, the others will shut off.

You are fully shutting down your pc correct, and not going into sleep or hibernate?
