Its not hard, just kinda get the generic theme put together in photoshop in different layers then each layer will be its own images in the end.

That's what I've done, I was hoping for a bit of constructive critisism on this Xevious one I was putting together, I'm thinking it's looking a little busy, can you guys give me some advice.
All the objects are seperate layers, as far as making say a flying saucer move is that relatively easy?

http://img247.imageshack.us/img247/3110/xeviouscw2.th.jpg (http://img247.imageshack.us/my.php?image=xeviouscw2.jpg)The artwork looks nice and clean. It is a little bit busy, but it fits the game well. It looks good, but I see a couple things...
1. Video will need to maintain a ratio. I don't think the video will scale to the shape that you have the video border in. I know of a way to make it work, but would require a lot of messing around to get it to position correctly. It would be kinda like how I made the video come up from the crater in the Space Invaders theme. It's possible, but just requires some tweaking a little. You wouldn't be able to make it animated and look right, it would need to fade in to be seamless.
2. For HS you have 4 artwork layers, 1 video layer, 1 background layer. You would need to combine several of the ships into one layer. Each layer has a different stratus.. Background is the lowest layer, Video, Artwork 4, Artwork 3, Artwork 2 and Artwork 1 is the highest. If you can create your themes with that in mind then once you have HS and HyperTheme you'll be good to go.
Making a layer move is relatively easy using the canned animations that Bill has built in. However, most are basic animations. You'll need to play around with the different ones to see which one looks better. If none of them look like you imagine then you can create a .swf in Flash to animate that layer with a more detailed animation.

Nice theme, you should take the 3 big spaceships and put them in artwork2-4 and use the floating resting feature of hyperspin to make them move around.
Your video is interesting, as it sits now that wouldnt work like that but that gives me an idea for masking. We can make it so that videos like that will work, we could have a mask file thats the shape you want and that will make it so you can have some really weird video shapes.

I just love how everything ends up being an upgrade, you guys are all over this!

Thanks Dazz and Bill, I'd really like to get the video happening in that shape.
Another thing I was hoping to do was have the tank at the back on the road and then overlay the laser blast explosion and have the tank in the air.
It sounds like I'd be running out of layers to do this and have the ships moving as well.
Apologies to casalej, I didn't mean to hijack your thread, :D

You could combine layers into a swf if you know a little Flash. Its not too hard but you have to watch the file size.

Unfortunately I don't know Flash, perhaps I should learn it.

@Retroborg
eh, don't worry about it. I am just trying to kill time while waiting for the release so I can get to work on my half finished cabinet. Maybe I should start working on some art for Knights of the Round. I checked out those videos a while back, will have to go back and look at them. I just don't want to put too much work in before actually seeing how the images are going to be implemented.

If you can draw it in photoshop you can make it work in HS, guaranteed.

Ive done all the basic work for Discs of Tron, just have to clean up some bits (hopefully this weekend), and then I was going to stay with the spinner games and go for Tempest and Arkanoid, two of my all time favorites.
Also, the Xevious theme looks sweet!

Hey I have a quick question for you all. Where do you get your images from, is there a good site with an archive? I search on google and there are not to many images for knights of the round and the ones I can find are pretty low resolution.

alot of times we take those crappy images and redo them in illustrator, there's a page in the wiki with links to a few artwork sites.

Try here (http://www.arcadeflyers.com/?page=thumbs&db=videodb&id=566) and here (http://www.arcadeflyers.com/?page=thumbs&db=videodb&id=5411), I think you could do something from them.

This is perfect Retroborg, thanks.
BBB, yeah redoing them in illustrator is a bit above me at this point I think I will continue with pics that Retroborg provided.
