Hi I want know if is posible implement jpg files for set as background and wheel in the themes.

(I know that jpg doesnt support animation options, but I think that will boost the performance in Hyperspin when animations are not required)

I ask that because I try to implement the wallpapers files as background,

I tried remplace a png file with a jpg in a made theme but Hyperspin dont show up.

Thanks.

eh, jpg's suck, they are lossy. PNG is nice as it is compressed but you don't lose any picture information. Just convert the jpg to png if you really need to. But I say no to jpg support as jpg stinks.

Hi Joebell.

The problem is that I had issues displaying correctly the wheel images.

When I enter to a list wich has as backgroun an png of 3.5mb and the wheel of 50kb I get a error in the sincronizacion of the image of the wheel and the image of the background.

Supposing that have three images A,B,C and three wheels images a,b,c.

I am getting A-b, B-c. C-a instead A-a, B-b, C-c

Others I lost part of the games and I must exit of that list and reenter.

That's don't affect the start of a game, but I would like resolve that problem of the wheel image.

I guess that if the images to be display were smaller then I will have less desincronization..

You seem to be under the impression a PNG doesn't compress close to a jpg. A PNG background of 3.5mb would indicate to me it's the wrong resolution, there's no way it should be that big at the supported resolutions. Either that, or you are somehow mixing up PNG's and FLV's, which if your PC isn't strong enough, could certainly cause slow down and a desync. Aside from that, no one else here seems to be reporting your problem, so I'd suggest you not try to fix the program that's not broken.

Instead, let us know which theme you are talking about, and which background image you are trying that is causing this issue. We might be best able to help you that way.

Well is not a theme at all, just modify the theme of PC-GAMING (http://www.hyperspin-fe.com/forum/downloads.php?do=file&id=162&act=down) do it by scrapple.

Maybe the problem is the software where I am "converting" the jpg files to pngs. I am doing with fireworks c3 (portable). Just drop the image, cut and save as PNG. The average file is aroun 2.5mb at 1024x768.

The original JPG image : ------104kb
Pasting in Fireworks CS3
and converting to PNG : ------2.44Mb

I know that If I do it manually the file in png I would modify and have smaller size.

My system is a E7200 with 2gbRam and HD4870 under windows vistax86, so I don't think that the problem be the computer, maybe Vista or the program with I am editing and converting the jpg to png.

If need it an image please let me know

I check and its the fireworks software

I'll put the final results later, THANKS

The jpeg support would be an interesting add-on but ONLY for backgrounds.

For artworks (and wheel images), jpeg sucks cause it doesn't support transparency and it's not lossless compressing.

Im having the same problem with the loading of the PC addon's themes.
I think your right and this is due to the large background images, havnt been able to test this yet. Perhaps some HS member could go over the pack, because i think it's not 100% bugfree.

One thing you could do in photoshop about the large imagefiles is resave them eoth the save for web function as a PNG-8 file.

Also, the folder Artwork 1 and Background images seem to be having the exact same images in them, maybe this is also causing all the themes to be messed. (I.E. : backgrounds, wheelimages and gamenames in the left-bottom corner not matching)

Thanks for your support MiguelSluma, I will try to do that, I believe that a less size of file better handling of the multimedia in HyperSpin.

At the moment I only use Background, Image and Video Folders, and I am not using the hipertheme utility, I just had modified the code of the Themepack of Scrapples.

Thanks again.

Make sure when saving as PNG in fireworks, you saved as a FLATTENED PNG. Fireworks uses layered PNGs (similar to Photoshops PSD format) as the default PNG Setting. Fireworks PNG is huge, but if you save as flattened png its much much smaller, comparable to a jpg but much better quality.

I would like to say that i have 1175 Snes Boxes thats are PNG and come inat a whooping 1.79 GIG, but the JPG's come in at 794meg thats a huge difference...

Is there anyway to get them smaller then...? i used a Batch Converter to convert from jpg to png. I used Right Click Image Converter.

You gotta small hard drive or something, I didnt think size was an issue these days.

tonycrew, those boxes named in no-intro format? you should get them up on the FTP if so - and if not get them to Azzbarb - who's working on a set.

also. I definately don't think PNG JPEG is the way to go. The reason that your boxes are so much less in jpg format is because JPG is LOSSY. if you want to sacrifice quality then jpg works.

If you do the math though it's not that big of a deal:

794 / 1175 = .675mb/box
1833 (1.79Gb) /1175 = 1.56mb/box

so you're looking at a difference of .88mb per box for lossless quality. I think that's worth it.

also the SNES set is probably ~800 games for US/EU releases @ 1.56mb. So that's like 1.21Gb multiply that by let's say 10 to get every box for every system (though most are far less than 800) and you have 12gb for all boxes.

a mame set is 17gb, and a chd set is 150gb.

like BBB said, I didn't think space was an issue anymore.

//math is fun.
///also running the 1.5tb...

I think you mispoke in your statement.
I definitely dont think PNG is the way to go, but then suggest using that format.

I'm pretty sure that he meant to say he doesn't think JPG is the way to go =)

Most of them are of the FTP, the rest are from RessurectionXtras and Compatibility Lists (http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=660135)
