View Full Version : Hyperspin and Steam
Hey guys,
I was wondering if anyone else has effectively integrated Steam and Hyperspin. I have a Steam game in my Hyperspin (Geometry Wars), and it will launch. The only problem is the time it takes to launch. When I select it in the Hyperspin menu, it takes a good minute or so for the game to launch, has anyone figured out a way to speed this up?

I tend to buy the games on Steam, and obtain a physical cd (or separate install) to avoid using Steam. I've yet to have an issue with this. This allows me to use my main account to buy the game and let my cab play. Obviously, I can't play the game on both my cab and home pc at the same time, but that's cool.
Unfortunately for me, I don't believe that Geometry Wars (the only Steam game I have for my cab) is available on a retail DVD, so I'm forced to use Steam. If only there was a way to launch the game without going through Steam.
I stand corrected, there is a standalone version. Problem solved. Now if I could only find a HQ gameplay video preview I'd be set.

Post cleared by an Admin, since we do not give instructions on finding warez. Yes, even uncracked ISO's, etc, are considered warez.

Do not post instructions in any form beyond saying "Go to google."
Specifics are not allowed. Any download of a game outside of what has been authorized as a legitimate resource by the publisher/manufacturer, is considered piracy. Even if it's not cracked.

I believe there are a few other things to check out when trying to run with steam games.
-If steam is set to load on boot up of your computer, it doesnt have to start and login when you start the game. (its already logged in) saving you that time.
-Steam (or some steam games) can be set to run in offline mode also avoiding the slowdown when starting a game and being forced to log into steam.
-make sure your internet connection is already established before trying to launch a steam game however you need to do it.
(Ive had some games never load or load with error if my connection didnt exist or timed out while trying to log-in to steam)
In any case if your already logged into steam games should load faster.

Sorry to Necro an old post but I am having some issues with Steam and Hyperspin.
I have some Steam Games on my Hyperspin wheel and have steam set to run on startup and set to offline.
However when I turn on the machine Steam pops up asking if want to continue in offline mode. This takes Hyperspin back to the desktop which I do not want to happen!
Is there any way of stopping this happening, no help on Steam forums or in the options.

I think all Steam games have a *. exe
For example in the case of Team Fortress2
C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\USERNAME\team fortress 2\hl2.exe
I think this happens in every game from steam, but I could be wrong.

Just the Source engine games with the exception of left 4 dead.

Here are some examples of games that I have.
\steamapps\common\unreal tournament 3\Binaries\UT3.exe
\steamapps\common\call of duty modern warfare 2\iw4mp.exe
\steamapps\common\dawn of war 2\DOW2.exe
\steamapps\common\dirt 2\dirt2.exe
\steamapps\common\left 4 dead\left4dead.exe
\steamapps\common\amnesia the dark descent\Amnesia.exe
\steamapps\common\borderlands\Binaries\Borderlands .exe
\steamapps\UserName\half-life 2\hl2.exe
\steamapps\UserName\portal\hl2.exe
\steamapps\UserName\counter-strike\hl.exe
\steamapps\UserName\team fortress 2\hl2.exe
You can use these *.exe to run the game "but"
all games on Steam use DRM "digital rights management"
so you always need to have the steam connected online
if not on, the games will fail to run or will popup a window to login steam
I did not tested this in hyperspin only ran the *.exe in windows, and that was the result I had.
If you do not mind having the steam always online, I guess you will not have problems.
