Would it be hard to make a remote that would work thru wifi? Kinda like the xbmc boxee and plex remotes? Like a virtual panel in your pocket? Would come in handy when using a cabinet for a jukebox.

It would also be cool to play galaga from across the room on a mobile device, major geek factor here fellas! I want this!

Sure... we'll get right on it.

Not gonna happen.

This wouldn't be a frontend thing. This would be an emulator thing. Contact the maker of every emulator you use and ask them to create it.

Otherwise, you're limited to Remote Desktop which would not be up to the task.

Yea I have a boxee remote and the xbmc remote and it is a pain to switch from 1 to the other, I thought maybe the commands sent to the computer thru wifi could be somehow intercepted and with autohorkey be converted to keycode's? I'm no programmer but is this at all possable? Would be nice to see that app in the hypermart maybe generate a little cash?

Actually as mentioned by chillinwater there are a few good programs out there for free that utilize the JRE on a Windows machine that allows for the remote control of your machine - and if configured properly per your emulator you can use them as a joystick. As for controlling the Hyperspin via phone touchpad you would have to set up a java enabled keystroke sender. I use PhoneMyPC from my HTC Evo 4G - that one works pretty good actually!

I've used it before. It's alright. About as much control as you would expect from a touchscreen. Not good for button mashing really.

Here are a couple more that ive used before, both have their advantages.
Can easily use it as a remote for Hyperspin or other programs

Ones called

"Custom Keypad App"

and the other is called "Snatch Pro"
both should do what you want them too.

i'd post links but i need to get to 5 posts

Cheers

If your using iPhone (no idea about android), splashtop will work. The controls will be unusable for the actual gaming, but it will technically work, if you wanted to show off the menu or something idk.

Joypad just got updated with skins from a lot of different console controllers (IAP though). You can map the buttons to whatever you want with the default skin.

I'd rather have a remote for the front end- start typing a game on any platform, hit launch, start playing (with your existing controls). Crazy convenient for anyone searching through 4,000+ games on an HTPC in the living room without a keyboard. I'd pay $5 for that.
