Here I go for my feature request ! :itsme:
I'd really love to be able to see the highscores inside hyperspin.
How is it possible you ask ?
Well, check this : http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=64298.0 :deal:
It's actually a way to have distinct files in a highscore folder, each one holding the score for a particular game (I think). Hyperspin would then "just" have to be able to read the file.....and display the score for the game when, for example, you press a button.
Why I want this ?
Because IMHO being able to see the scores without having to actually load the game is a kickass feature !!
BBB, I know it's not gonna be top on your list but what do you think ?

i have absolutely no idea how difficult that would be to implement, but i like the idea!!

To the best of my knowledge BBB, if you were to implement Killboy's request, HyperSpin would be the first front-end to offer this feature. But like Miguelsluma, I have no idea how hard it would be to do this.

Actually this is one of the things I'm working on, I want this frontend to do things that arcade games do and one thing is that once in a while it will display high scores. The high scores will display with the wheel images on the left side with high scores on the right and it will scroll. It wont be complex and maybe only scroll through 20 or 30 games of your choice, games you only care to see high scores for anyways. But that can just be for attract mode. As for per game, maybe it can show at the top of the screen as optionional in the top left or top right while the theme is playing.

I think this would be a real stand-out feature for HyperSpin. GREAT idea BBB and Killboy.

I was searching the internet and I found there's a download to save your highscore in mame, im not sure about the displaying it on the front-end itsef though. The site also has a tutorial on how it saves it, maybe it'll be helpful unless you guys already know about this altogether.

It's not easy, pretty much every game is different. I've actually been working on this for months, and the code I've made is completely open source. Here's my thread, I update it every week or so, and there's some other people helping. Feel free to help, I could use it. There's a lot of games.

Seriously, ask me any questions about hi scores, I'm probably the guy to ask.

I think this would look cool as one of the images at the bottom of the screen, they already cycle interface controls to have one of the cycles be the games high score would be insane. Or have it at the top fading in and out every other cycle maybe. Lots easier to say when your not the programmer though :P

I've been reading your entire post and what you've done so far is AWESOME !! :burnout:
Can't wait till BBB incorporates this in HS !!
By the way, I'll see if I can send you some .hi + screenshots in the next few days (well if you still need some)...

Thank you for the compliment, and there are still hundreds of games that need to be deciphered, so send away!

Hey Fyrecrypts, I bet if you made some kinda tutorial or something that a somewhat smart enough person could follow or maybe give some tips or basic education on how to do a game, I bet more people that are borderline wanting to help or just determined would like to get involved, maybe recommended programs to use and some basics. Nice work though, a very ambitious project!

Yes HiToText is one of my favourite new Mame projects! It took a while for FE dev's to realise it's potential but it's really great to see it being used. And just to think Fyrecrypts was having doubts about the project in it's early stages.
There is also an online component to the project that Frycrypts hasn't mentioned yet where hiscores could be shared through some online system. The only problem I envision is people cheating by entering fake hiscores.
