wasn't this game just a rip off of street fighter 2 and then came the joke character Dan. I think that was the reason Dan came along, they even have jokes going on within the "Alpha" series

I think you are on the right track. Looks clean...but just a bit simple. If you can, increase the size of the logo, and add an additional character or two to fill out the right area.

You dont have to see the characters whole body perfectly in the space provided. Try something creative like blowing the character up like 5 times to where you only see part of him on the screen, maybe from waste up with one arm off the screen. It will fill lots of empty space and look alot better.
