The list of requested new genres will probably never end. I've been adding my own as the whim strikes. But one thought seems particularly apt:

A "Classic Games" genre which would include the old Space Invaders, Asteroids, Pacman, Battle Zone, Centipede, etc. Even many newer games would qualify.

The problem with some genres (like Favorite Games) is that the are by nature user specific. But Classic Games seems more like a universal category...

I like the idea, but the term classic my end up catering a very long list.

I would say that neither "Classic" or "Favorite" are genres.

I have to agree with Blazer, those are not genres, even though I think the official genre list for HS 2.0 is missing a few genres which makes database cataloging not that accurate.

You may have a point. Now I'm not so sure what a genre is or isn't. Is Adult Games a genre? Is War Theme Games a genre? Maybe a neat, concise definition of 'genre' would be in order here.

Check gamefaqs genre list they have a great genre system and I wish HS would use it as a standard, one of the very few things I'm not too keen with the upcoming HS 2.0 is the new simplistic genre system.

War Theme games wouldn't be a genre, but more of a sub-genre of strategy games or other genres.

I know some guys use Adult Games as a genre, but I don't think they should, that's mixing genres and ratings, there can be adult games from several genres from shmups to virtual life simulators.

If you really want a definition: :)

brolly: thanks for the link to the Wiki definition. Gamers are guaranteed to express a variety of informed or uninformed opinions whenever the opportunity arises. Anything that helps to get us on the same page helps.

Regarding the use of Adult themes as a genre: this could be a convenient ploy to allow the separation of adult games from other games when children have access to an arcade machine. Of course, this band-aid doesn't guarantee anything, but it may be handy for some. (I don't have kids, so have no axe to grind.)

You will be able to do precisely that on HS 2.0 using the rating system.

Looking over some of the posts in this thread, it seems that a feature allowing the creating of sub-wheels by users would be handy. There's a lot of different reasons that a user might want a special sub-wheel aside from genres.

Are there any other readers who would like to create special sub-wheels accessed by pressing a key?

Sub sub wheels will not be an option.

Thanks for the response. Since HyperSpin supports a genre wheel, I presume such things are possible and that my terminology, e.g. 'sub-wheel', is wrong. Anyway, ruling out bad or unworkable ideas is just as important as converging on good ones. It all helps narrow the path to the best FE.
