I have a higher end PC, C2D E8400, 8 gigs ram, Evga GTX280 FTW, and Gauntlet Legends off CHD runs like an atari 2600 trying to run a NES, extremely laggy, sound is very choppy etc. Im using mame .128, any ideas what is going on or how to fix it? Thanks!

Actually, it is going to take a minimum of 4ghz to run games like Gauntlet Legends. Even 4ghz machines have issues like you are describing.

MAME is not in an advanced enough state to emulate game at full speed with complex(by MAME standards) 3D graphics and 200Mhz processors.

GL might be playable if you OC your procs and maybe bring the sound sampling down. You need to check out the benchmarking thread over at BYOAC.

In the meantime, you might want to try playing a GL port for a console like Dreamcast. I think thats the best one out of the bunch but I could be wrong. Its been awhile since I played GL.

Billpa gave you great advice, play it on the Dreamcast emulator called "nulldc", it's fantastic, as long as you have a FAIRLY recent video card.
