Rainbow Islands - rainbow(manipars 11-25-2008) (WIP)

Greetings! I'm currently working on a theme for "Rainbow Islands" (The Story of Bubble Bobble 2), I'm very unhappy with the results so far; I have tested many different versions with different backgrounds and animations etc. The main problem is that it is very hard to find a good quality artwork for the main characters (Bubblun and Bobblun aka. bub & bob) the theme feels empty without the characters. I will update this post later with other previews. Cheers.

Greetings everyone and thanks for the replies and comments! The second image that 80's Gamer posted is what I used at first to mask out the title logo but unfortunately I couldn't use the character since it was too tiny and it looked awful even with I up-scaled it and sharpened it since the rest of the theme is hi-res, sharp and clean. I think that it will be easier if I print a small image and then hand draw it and re-scan it again at hi-res. I'll give it a shot. it will take me much longer to re-create that character in Photoshop but perhaps some of you Photoshop gurus could do that in only 5min. I would appreciate any help with the characters. I'll post a preview with the hand-drawing later if it doesn't look too embarrassing. Cheers =)

Here is another test ver. with the in-game characters added. It looks awful and out of place in my opinion but it is still better than no characters at all. What I am after is the character from the last screenshot/pic*. Cheers

update: here is the new character artwork that I'm working on, the positioning of the clouds and character and its size will be corrected later so that it feels right. I'm pretty happy with this artwork so far. I might have to remove the wheel images in the background for a cleaner look. Cheers =)

Greetings! Theme submitted. Thanks for the replies! Here is the final version with lots of minor small fixes and corrections (hard to judge the changes from the screenshot) The character was the only thing that was missing and the theme just felt empty and lifeless without it. Cheers

PS. : 80s Gamer: The character on the left side was also my first choice, in that position it looks like he just created a rainbow bridge to climb on. The other pic. was just to show a larger preview of the WIP. character. It is still not perfect but hopefully it's the overall look and feel that counts and not small minor details =).

Greetings HS community!

I just deleted and re-uploaded this theme and updated it. I just recently noticed that since HS went from "folder structure" to "zip structure" the rainbow-video border was missing on this theme in the zip-file that is available on this site/FTP, and since I never re-downloaded this theme myself after the HS-update I never noticed it until now.

This was one of my first themes and back then I had the HS wheel always enabled on the right side and that is why the right side looks empty.

Small Updates:
* Fixed and centered the layout
* Added more hovering cloud layers
* Added shadows
* Updated the animations
* Rain animation

For now I highly recommend this update for everyone until I completely re-create some of my older themes with better and different artwork this summer after I'm done moving to the new place and starting building some custom Vewlix Cabinets. :)

I just noticed that I don't have permission to delete the older zip file from this site that was missing the video border because I think it was Dazz that re-uploaded all of the themes when we went from folder structure to zip structure. I would appreciate if a admin/mod could delete the older zip file from the FTP/site.

As requested, manipars, I deleted the old theme and replaced it with the new one. I hope you don't mind, but I made a few tweaks as well.

-I replaced the character with one from guyverjay's FMTOWNS theme b/c it was a higher-rez image.
-I redrew the border on the title and made the colors more vibrant.
-I added a little bit of trim to the vid border so it matches the title
-I made a wheel image from the title (The current wheel image is clean, just different)

Here's the final approved theme! (Let me know if you want me to change something)

Many older themes from a couple of years ago could definitely need some polish and minor changes and animation updates etc. I've updated lots of themes artworks and animations on my system that I was unhappy with. We are almost done with the entire MAME set when it comes to themes (maybe less than 1year left?) and hopefully when all the MAME themes are complete then we can all start working on polishing the 50% of older themes that needs it :) and that should be a quick task if everyone shares their updated and cleaned up artworks in a single thread perhaps. Cheers
