View Full Version : HyperSpin Themes? Sticking to a goal?

I'm starting to wonder something to myself seeing certain themes coming on over the last couple months. Isn't the goal of HyperSpin to create themes that are actually based on the artwork related to or released with the game? I know in some instances artwork isn't always available so that is understandable. But I see themes that are submitted that just come from a basic google image search and slapped into the theme.

Now I'm not trying to be a prude, cuz obviously if I don't like a theme then I just don't use it or download it. But inherently (for me at least) it ruins the beauty of what HyperSpin is and represents. I'm not seeing a lot of high quality themes anymore like I used to that people plan out and take their time with. I mean of course there are some nice ones here and there but definitely not like it was when HS was first released. I probably put over 20 hours of work into the one and only theme I ever submitted. If you look at BBB's recent Renegade theme he released...those are the kind of themes I see running on HS in a cabinet.

Sry guys, i just had to vent that, haha!....Just my 2 cents.

This is the same reason you will see me doing alot of themes over that maybe are already submitted by other users.

Well I think that for most people it's always better to have a basic theme than nothing, even if it means creating better-looking ones later...

I do agree that many themes are just average (my wip included) but why not create average themes for now and let skilled people improve the ones they think necessary later on ?

Some games are just so unknown that nobody might ever create a theme for them if you don't do it yourself. Also the HS team is checking every user created theme right ? Then really ugly themes are rejected I guess...

My opinion is that HS can only improve with time...and whatever is done is done....

I dont think we have been disapproving any bad themes, everyone deserves a chance I guess.

But on the otherhand I personally disagree that a sucky theme is better than no theme. I would rather use my default layout theme as the theme for a non themed game than a horribly slapped together theme. Also I want my setup to be realy pretty so I hate to say that even some mediocre themes wont be making it onto my machine. But I've noticed alot of people feel the same way as you and will take just about anything which is why we approve just about anything and leave it up to the downloaders to decide if they like a theme or not.

It's a subjective thing too, what is a rose for one, is a torn for another. whatever the case, it's up to the user to decide if he/she likes it, and install it.

Anyway, it's no different than any other community that requires artistic creativity. If one would look at the first 100 Visual Pinbal tables, compared to the last 100, you'd see a world of difference. The more people share techniques, the more members participation will eventually lead to a cream of the crop scenario.

I agree with badboy.

I think it's important that there is quality control and that themes stick with the actual artwork for the game in question.
