In the past I left all my console emulation upto the hacked xbox.
But since hyper theme I've decieded to put all my roms in the cab
So my question is what emulator do you reccommend for each system?

Myself I use mameplus for mame as if someone presses esc(p1+p2) by mistake it asks you to confirm before throwing you back out to the FE

Well when HS is released it is already configured to run with all the consoles you see in the teaser video.. Id like to think I chose the best emus for each system. Oh course its all debatable. With that said the emulation on pc is far superior to Xbox because of sheer cpu speed and all xbox uses are ports of pc emus anyways.

I use a custom build of regular mame..
Nes=nestopia
Genesis=fusion and gens32 surreal
gba/gb/gb color= VBA (visual boy advance)
Dreamcast=nulldc
PSX= Psx
3d0=freedo
lynx=handy

Ahh to many to list.. Best to use the included configs.

to add to brians list a little

snes = zsnes pretty much hands down. If you have an uber system(depending on resolution of course) then you could give bsnes a try. The author byuu is working hard to make it as accurate as possible without resorting to any hacks or such(as much as possible) it can be pretty taxing and I get some sound sync issues with it when I enable certain filters but I do like the visual output, its different than zsnes's output and kind of sharper.

Nintendo 64 = Project64

Wonderswan = oswan

Turbo Grafx 16 = magic engine

yeah I do a custom build for mame with the hi score support added(I find if I use the save states that it crashes when loading the states occasionally) Here's a page with the hi score diff file if you are interested http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=64298.0

I use a custom MAME build that incorporates CPWizard, Highscore, and removes nag screens. I also have MAME setup to pause when I hit tab and bring up the option screen.

I know the OP mentioned "console emulation" but don't forget some of the classic computer systems. I don't think playing "Secret of Monkey Island" is something I'd want to do on an arcade cab, but playing Project X, Alien Breed, Battle Squadron, etc through Amiga emulation is pretty cool, fits the cab mentality very nicely.

for the Amiga, there can be only 1 emulator: WinUAE.

It looks like this site has a bunch of emulators rated.

www.emulator-zone.com

Site seems a little out dated though. =/

yeah.. I check planetemu.net every so often..
but more frequently I check sites like 1emulation.com and its partner sites as they alway post when something new comes out... But if you dont check it for a few days you get lost.

I doubt hyperspin will include the emulators themselves, just support for many of them?

Maybe one day... I'm only one guy.. Anyuser here can feel free to create a config and submit it for inclusion in future releases... Of course a theme and menu / wheel needs to be setup aswell.
Then Billy needs to approve it.,

Its a little more work than building an ini

I gather. Personally, and I'm seeing this from an outsider perspective, but I'm sure most understand this is not a weekend project and there are many phases to it, with I'm sure future releases down the road. The team has done imho a great job in emphasizing the community aspect, so I'm sure those "in the know" will contribute themes, configs, etc. Rome wasn't built in a day and neither was HyperSpin, nor should it. I'm still amazed from what I've seen out of a non-commercial app. Kudos to you all.

p.s. I don't have any art skills but I'll give the "config" part a try. If I can help, I will any way I can.

That's what I was refering to, a spot on the wheel is all I ask. :)

Yep thats it a spon on the wheel and a included working config.
We will not provide the emus as it takes away from the author,,
They need hits on thier website also.. Then if we did included them we would be responcable for keeping them up to date in future builds.

hyperspin can have quite a lot of spots on its wheel you just have to create the necessary files and put them in their spots and hyperspin will add it to the wheel. There are no set number of spots on the wheel.

Is there a recommended limit before performance is affected? I was thinking, oh 2 years from now when the community ended doing every Mame game (ugh! what a job!). is it possible because of all the graphics files listing all the games, a performance hit is therefore expected?

Probably 1,000,000,000 before you notice it start to bog down.

Holy crap!

That was just a joke really, your probably thinking the more items the wheel has the slower it might become becasue theres so many images, but HS doesnt work that way, your only loading maybe 20 images at a time, so really a wheel can have an unlimited amount of items. Where it matters the most is the size of the xml that you load which you would need a really large text file to suck up your memory if thats the case.

I figured the number was exaggerated a tad eheh. I understand how it works though, cool.
