View Full Version : Atari 5200 emulator - Jum52 no .zip support?
I just started messing around with Jum52 and setting up Atari 5200. It appears that Jum52 not have .zip support? I am lazy and don't want to have to unzip any of my roms. Not to mention the space that .zip saves..
Is Jum52 the only/best emulator for Atari 5200?

I agree with the need to have zip support but you're stretching it a bit with this one Dazz. We're talking about games that are so small, the reserved space per file probably takes up more space than necessary whether the file is zipped or not ;).

I was also looking for an alternative to Jum52 as the dos version does not run in x64.

Took a while to figure out the MESS.. Here is what I found so far
1. DL MESS and unpack it somewhere:
http://www.mess.org/download.php
2. Create directory called ROMS where you unpacked the MESS ZIP
3. Download system rom files
http://mess.oldos.net/
4. Place the system rom files you downloaded here into the ROMS directory (without unzipping them)
5. Execute this command from where the mess.exe is located: (specifing the full path to the romfile where indicated):
mess a5200 -cart "C:\Atari 5200\ROMS (No-Intro)\berzerk (usa).a52" -skip_gameinfo -nowindow -nonewui
I have not yet figured out how to specify these commands in the hyperHQ params field. Any takers?

I'm starting to agree with Dazz about Mess being a pain in the ass. I did exactly (I hope) what Propaganda said and I get the message
C:\Downloads\mess>c:\downloads\mess\mess a5200 -cart "c:\downloads\mess\roms\Choplifter # A5200.zip" -skip_gameinfo -nowindow -nonewui
5200.rom NOT FOUND
ERROR: required files are missing, the system cannot be run.
C:\Downloads\mess>pause
Press any key to continue . . .
I'm running this from a .bat file and I do have the a5200.zip file in the mess\roms directory.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

mess a5200 -cart "c:\MESS 137\Atari5200\BerZerk (USA).zip" -skip_gameinfo

If you use Winrar you can unzip all of your roms at the same time just select all/and extract
you might also want to try this emulator
http://kat5200.jillybunch.com/
It requires a bios to run

My humble apologies to Mess and crew. I was my own pain in the ass. I forgot I had changed the path name and left it incorrect in the .ini file. :stupid:

I am by no means a professional here, but Mess was the last emulator I finished for Atari 5200. I ended up using a5200.zip also. I used Clrmamepro to setup my Atari roms, as the documentary on it shows for clrmamepro. It worked flawlessly. On the first try after using Clrmamepro to match up/rename the files per Hyperspin list. If Mess isnt working outside on its own, is it a good emulator file?
