I've decided to throw in the towel on my app. HS is just too nice and why reinvent the 'wheel'. I was wondering if there were any plans to add search functionality to the app? I find it quite tedious to have to scroll and scroll and...
See pic. The window can slid in and out and display different types of searches within the popout. I had this working in mine quite nicely and it simplifies locating things considerable especially for those lengthy game lists.
BTW. HS is looking great so far and I can't wait to see the next version.

Hey there, does your app use a mouse? HS's main thing is that its to be run in a cab, which is our priority, so everything must be done with a joystick or trackball, now I'd imagine that having a search function would be much like trying to type your name in on a console with a joypad, slow.... even with maybe something like built in autocomplete features. For it to look nice it could have an fun looking on screen keyboard. Or you could type in a search the way you would type your initials in some games.
Either way the main point is to keep it far from computer looking and as close to arcade feel as possible. The minute you have to have a keyboard is when the FE starts to loose its arcade appeal in my opinion.
I have new navigation stuff in the next release, you can fly to the next letters quickly so that should help alot.
Thanks

I like the idea of a faster scroll alot better.
I think even with the new navigation in the next version a search feature would be nice to have eventually. I think it would be nice to have an assignable button that would bring up the search window along with an on screen keyboard. This way you can simply use that to type in what you want to search for and either have it do a live search on the XML for that game, or type in the first couple characters and hit the key that is assigned as the select button that would take you to a list matching your search. I don't think it would too difficult to implement, but I'm just saying it would be nice to have eventually.
BUT, the I can attest that getting to a specific game is MUCH easier and faster with the new navigation in the new version.

I agree with you 3B, there is always tradeoffs to consider. A lot of cabs do have a trackball so perhaps have that feature enableable for those users only via settings. I always kept simplicity in mind also. I pretend my kids will be using the app and go from there. How about for the short term, use a left arrow key to... Forget it I just checked and you do pg up and down using left and right arrows. I like that.
BTW. I really like the theme editor too and can't wait for the bells and whistles. Are you considering an import feature also?
Just like my old version under WPF, the wheel spins like it's stuck in molasses due to the graphics processor on my laptop. As soon as I put them both on my cab that has an ATI 1900xtx, it became more than worthy of being called HyperSpin.

HyperTheme will have an import feature eventually. The new version with alphabetical jump right now makes navigating alot faster than previously.
Either way the main point is to keep it far from computer looking and as close to arcade feel as possible. The minute you have to have a keyboard is when the FE starts to loose its arcade appeal in my opinion.
I couldn't agree more.
