View Full Version : Get rid of Nag Screens in MAME

If you ever tried gameex with mame you see that it skips the nag screens and it goes right to the game. Can Hyperspin have that feature too?
Much easier to just grab a copy of Mame recompiled with nag screens disabled and high scores enabled. GameEx uses a command line to disable them.

Well i use MAME XT which enables high score saving, but does not disable nag screens. What do I do?

Use this to compile a version of MAME that skips nag screens/keep hi scores:

Shouldn't be a problem. The HyperSpin community doesn't have any rules regarding the posting of emulator builds, whether official or unofficial. It's the MAME community that looks down on unofficial builds.

Thx for the help guys :)
Hey Madness, here is a site that you should never forget. This guy always has the freshest builds of any emulator you could ever want. I loved this guys work so much I simply had to donate to his project:

You can find any type of MAME or any other emulator that you could ever want there, it is my first line of offense! Thanks, hope that site helps you like it has me.

Actually Hyp, I spoke with BBB about this a couple of weeks back, and he says that unofficial (compiled) builds of MAME are not allowed to be linked to on the main forums.
Although linking to the compiler & stuff should be fine.
Just to let people know, so nobody gets in trouble.
(Plus builds are easily found via Google !)

Thanks for the heads up, DemonEyeX.
We'll need to get that rule in writing on the site so we can avoid those posts in the future. :)

I this tool also for the Mame Version 144?
I do know that cheats arent working in 144u7,also be aware that the "no nag" breaks some games,i.e. The final round.
Also at the risk of sounding "corny" those "nag" screens will teach you all sorts of stuff if you leave them :)
Its super easy to compile without the need of the mame compiler, just get the source, diff, and write a simple batch file

^ I believe that's true for pinball, but not arcade games. You have to do left/right every time you boot a game.

True, i would much rather have a feature in hyperlaunch that skips the system checks when a rom starts, i find that a lot more annoying then the nags.
I know some Mame builds have a build in script to skip a number of frames in the rom when it starts, making it seem like the checks are skipped.
That would be a nice feature imho for hyperlaunch.
Especially considering that those mame builds are outdated.
That will never be in hyperlaunch. Just compile the mame source to skip them.

Will try that eventually, are there any of those easy compilers that support adding the skipping function, besides the high score patch?

No there aren't.
You have to manually edit the MAME source code for this or apply special "diff" files which basically do the same, but automated.

Tnx for the info, sadly a bit too diffcult for me, i am not a developer :)
But its good to know, so i dont start compiling for reasons that cannot be done.
