I think this have been mentioned before in a thread, but here it goes.:-)
How about an increasing spin speed, so that large wheels will be possible to navigate through.
Slow the first seconds, then stepping up the speed in intervals every 2-3 seconds? Up until you just have a blur of wheel graphic at its top speed.
This way it will be possible to even have a full mame rom set installed without spending half an hour to get to you R- games.

Another thing that may be helpful for larger rom sets is to have the left and right arrows jump to consecutive letters instead of paging. This was you can quickly scroll through letter ranges and when you arrive at the letter you want you zip through the games for that letter using the up and down arrow. Perhaps a setting to toggle between paging or letter paging. It'll be even more HyperSpiny that way. :)

A text wheel has been added along with a faster wheel and also alpha navigation. Hitting left/right will move up/down to the previous/next letter.
I think everyone will be happy with what all has been added as far as navigation goes.

Great! I like the letter wheel idea even more. Can't wait to see the next incarnation.

Ya you can set Low, Med, High on a per emu basis. On some pc's the wheel can spin to fast which is why I have Low, and Medium settings. Default is high.
You can move alphabetically.
And I did a couple enhancements to make the wheel a little faster anyways.
So overall I think its not that bad to navigate to any game. Right now you only have a choice between alphabetical or jump by number of games. I will probably make two extra keyboard key assignments so you can have both, so left - right for alphabetical and two buttons to do jump by number of games.
Maybe I'll do that tonight so that we have both, because even some letters have to many games to just navigate normally. So you can jump to the letter quickly and once your at the letter you can use the number of games jump button to get to a game faster in that letter.

Cool. We can have our cake and eat it too. Thanks.
All this talk about using the arrow keys to navigate leads me to question if you've given any thought to u360s being able to handle navigation also. I know my app wouldn't work with them for the up and down. XPadder could be an alternative but not nearly as good as native detection would.

Just a reminder BBB that as you stated HyperSpin is created with a focus of working in a cab, so with that in mind, there's lots of buttons that can be used to help with the navigation and other items.
player 1 Joystick up/down = navigate through the list one at a time
player 1 Joystick left/right = navigate through the list alphabetically
player 1 button 1 = select different list (genre/company/favorites/etc)
player 1 button 2 = pop up CP pic (cart for consoles)
player 1 button 3 = pop up cab pic
player 1 button 4 = pop up history info
player 1 button 5 = navigate forward 25 games
player 1 button 6 = navigate backwards 25 games
for button 2 to 4, only have those stay on the screen while the button is pressed, letting it go makes it disappear. This prevents cluttering of the screen.
etc. etc.
Just a suggestion of course ;)

Dont forget we also have the HyperSpin button taken up. I wont go over 6 buttons I dont think. Im almost done seperating number and game jump, testing in a few minutes.
So far its:
Player 1 Up = navigate 1 up
Player 1 Down = navigate 1 down
Player 1 Right = alphabetical jump down
Player 1 Left = alphabetical jump up
Button 1 = HyperSpin
Button 2 = Genre Screen
Button 3 = Navigate Up By Set Number
Button 4 = Navigate Down By Set Number

Reviving an old feature request...
With large wheels, the fast speed (even turbo'ed) can take unpleasantly long to get through the game list. Having the ability to skip to a letter is a big help, but does not solve the problem.
I would like to request the following enhancements:
1. Add a faster speed beyond the current Fast speed.
2. Provide the ability to specify the speed multiplier for the turbo button.
3. Implement acceleration for the turbo button, so that the longer you hold it down, the faster the wheel goes.
Request #1 helps basic navigation for large wheels. Requests #2 and #3 allow the administrator to tune the initial turbo speed, as well as its acceleration characteristics.
This would be a good, intuitive way to improve the basic navigation capabilities.
