PLEASE READ BEFORE DOWNLOADING:
I will uploading the new HS soon and wanted to give you guys a chance to look at the release notes to see whats changed. Obviously alot has changed and the New HS isnt compatible with your old installs fully and there are lots of new settings. Rather than do an audit on your existing settings its best to just install the new HS from scratch and move over the appropriate boxart, themes and wheel images from your old install over. When moving over folders of artwork
DO NOT copy over your default.png files. They are moved around in the new release and can mess up the themes in the new install.
DO NOT copy over your settings files, HS comes with new ones, you must
reset your paths.
DO NOT copy overwrite the new databases in the new build.
Sorry for the trouble on that, but the new install is put pretty good to get you mostly back to where you were if not further along than where you were before.
There are several surprises in the release so have fun playing and hopefully we got alot of the bugs squashed and feature requests fulfilled.
Thanks for everyones support and patience and to all the donaters and theme creators for supporting the free HyperSpin project, the donations have really encouraged me to keep working hard.
I will post back here when the download is ready.
HyperSpin 0.8.0.0
Added Analog joystick/Ultrastik support.
Added Trackball and Spinner support
Added Option to display text on wheel with images, set strokes, gradients, font, shadows etc.
Added Option to position the vertical wheel style, left, center, or right
Added Options to adjust wheel speeds on a per emu basis.
Added Seperate Player 1 and 2 start and exit options
Added Option to have a key delay when turning the wheel, for a quick pause after first turn incase
the wheel spins to fast for you.
Added Animated Special Artworks (swf support), animated joysticks and press/start animations. Includes examples.
Added Ability to disable exiting HS with the Exit key.
Added Sort list by name or description
Added Ability to remove stuff in parenthesis from rom descriptions from wheel text or the textfield.
Added Alphabetical game jump along with number of games jump support.
Added Games can now adopt parent videos and parent themes.
Added Can now have a default video overlay image for games without themes. Default.png in video folder.
Added Now can return to same system on main wheel when exiting subwheel instead of always going back
to MAME.
Added Sub Menu default themes can now have default.xml file so themes can be made in HyperTheme.
this makes it easier to share themes instead of giving instructions on what to change in the ini.
Added better installer, initial download is alot bigger but includes all the main themes and vids and some wheel sets.
Installation should be easier now, only thing you need to setup is your emu paths, rom paths, and
video paths. Everything else is just optional including themes since HS supports text now.
Added option to animate default themes out when holding up or down. The reason for this is that some
default themes hide the wheel and dont animate out. So now you can optionally hide the theme
when moving the wheel more than a few games.
Added Skip Intro Video option with a keypress.
Added New Animation style "pixelate" - pixelate an image in, like in Super Mario World
Added New Animation style "flip" - Image will flip in from random angle with a bend to it.
Added New Animation style "bounce random" bounce an images all around the floor(bottom of screen), see future pinball theme.
Added New Video style "tv" - Causes the video to animate in with a television static effect.
Added Hi Score support from Fyrecrypts and the others that helped create the hiscore software and the people who help decrypt games.
Fixed Attract mode not stopping on certain keys.
Fixed Default backgrounds not animating in when coming to default theme.
Fixed If using a custom video path then not pulling video overlays from media folder.
Fixed If using fade on video with overlay then the video wouldnt fade in, it would just appear.
Fixed Improved the way themes and default themes interact when navigating.
Fixed Improved the wheel to run a little more smoothly and faster
Fixed Themes only bug. Also loading with themes only is fast loading now, no slowdown. You should only ever need
a full database now for your systems instead of theme only databases.
Fixed HyperHQ path output for LEDBlinky for paths with spaces.
Fixed Vertical wheel squishing wheel images on large wheel item.
Fixed Background bug, where swf backgrounds wouldnt remove, i.e, you can hear asteroids sounds
on another theme or menu.
Fixed Bug when exiting during wheel jump locks HS.
Fixed HS doesnt pause when minimizing.
Fixed HS not pausing swf animations with nested movieclips, i.e, mr.do and nba jam, when losing focus.
Fixed If going to exit menu then coming back to HS, then HS cant pause when losing focus anymore.
Fixed HS would lockup in genre menu after a while.
Fixed 2 errors in Neo Geo database.
Other Additions:
-Over 200 new wheel sounds to HS, including sets of sounds for NES, 32X.
-Normalized all HS wheel sounds.
-Included several system start sounds for various systems (Sounds that play when entering subwheel).
-Revamped several main menu themes, and included new themes for Dreamcast, Future Pinball and Model 2.
-All core systems now come with a basic default theme included with the installer. No more blank systems.
-Added PC Engine Theme to main menu, and full pc engine database with year, date, manufacturer.
-Included all joebells xml databases, new TG16 database and updated mame included database to 128.
-Fixed Atari 5200 database to reflect new no-intro naming instead of old.
-Added full Atari 5200 Cart Set and Wheel Image set, alot of redraw work.
-Added full TG16 Box Set and Wheel Image set.
-Included new medley videos for several main menu themes made by Emumovies.
-Exit menu animations are now faster.
-Added more adjustable settings in HyperHQ, including keyboard settings.
-Reduced the size of the main pinball wheel graphic, was to big.

Awesome work Bill! A great list of improvements!
I couldn't see it there but can a program be launched directly from the main wheel in this version?
Thanks!

I can't wait to see what changes you've made. Did you ever come with a solution for HS not opening on certain video cards. I read about this on another thread and I never really saw that there was a solution. I'm still having that problem. HS doesn't open on the first click then opens to a black screen on the second. If this is a hardware problem then I can survive. It's time to update my computer anyway.

Prelininaryl thoughts:
- The new intro video. WOW! This looks very cool, especially once I set up my windows to skip the desktop and go straight into HyperSpin.
- Love the animated special artworks, adds more polish to the experience
- Love the new themes
I'm not done checking it out. I had to quit out of it as I was loading HS from a network drive and it was a bit too laggy because of that. I'm reinstalling it on my local HD and will provide further opinions afterwards.
Circo: Jeez, those new system them vids that show parts of several games? I want those for EVERY system. Er, when you do the Genesis theme, please make sure you add in NHL 94 :).
Is this an option you turn on somewhere? Cant get it goin for me (if this means like hit the letter H to go to games starting with H, etc)No, this means that you can assign a button to move up a letter and another button to move down a letter. I think by default these are left and right.

Greetings! You browse alphabetically when you press Left/Right (SkipUP/SkipDown), I'm not 100% sure since I've not tried the new version yet but that's the way MaLa or MameWah worked. Also check your settings it might not be auto enabled by default. The option that you mentioned about hitting the letters on the keyboard in order to jump to that letter would not work well at all on a cab with only arcade controls. Cheers
/EDIT: Mr. Dazz beat me by a few sec=]. PS. I also wish that I had PM'd bent and set my ftp account up for this new version.. a brand new HyperSpin day tomorrow...

Bug found: Zinc main menu theme comes up with "no background image" message.
Recommendation: I love the intro video and I know I can turn it off. But it would be really cool if I could leave it on, but I could skip it if so desired. Is there a way to do so? Can't seem to find the key.
Personal opinion: The main menu Mame theme is awesome but I've always been perplexed as to why we're showing the vids in a widescreen aspect ratio when all these games were in a 4:3 aspect ratio. The result is all the games shown in that vid look squished. That's just my 1:00am opiniated... opinion for you :).
So far, looks sooo impressive. I know I've said it but this looks much more polished than before (and it already was!). Well done BBB!

Man it takes foreevvver to upload to mega upload, it just finished, everyone can get the installer here:
http://www.hyperspin-fe.com/forum/downloads.php?do=file&id=664 (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=3EGR4TD1)
Zinc has no theme currently, not a bug.
Alphabetical support is left and right keys, you can set them in HQ if you want different. Or A and D for player 2.
The intro video can be skipped, look at the startup exit settings, any key can skip the intro, its off by default, wanted to not have anyone skip the intro by accident.
The main menu theme is based on the ultracade style default theme, feel free anyone to create another mame theme. The videos dont look bad in the window in my opinion. Its just a preview.

Thanks and thanks for the feedback so far, and yes thanks to billpa for the intro vid, we tried to have that as a surprise so it wasnt in the release notes.
Anyways theres always the possibility of bugs of course, Im not perfect so if anyone finds anything then submit them and I can have an update release on monday that you can overwrite exe's.
Two bugs have been submitted so far and they have to do with HyperHQ.
Setting HiScore support to true doesnt actually set it true in the ini file. So if you want to test HiScore support then go to Settings.ini and change it to true there.
And if you use LEDBlinky then setting the path to LEDBLinky adds a quote instead of a backslash on the path so to fix that just go to Settings.ini and manually fix the path.

Forget the Thanks button for this one. What you and your team have accomplished in such a short period of time is truly amazing. Your attention to detail and what the community wants and expects is second to none. Funny thing is I just signed up for gold membership to help out and encourage the team in the stretch. A minute later, lo and behold, version 0.8. Way to make my weekend.
A huge thanks to HS and Company. Can't wait to see what it looks like.

Make sure that you post your thoughts... I am very anxious to see what everyone thinks of this version. This version actually contains about 99% of the functionality that I've been bitching about since day one. :D

Hey Dazz,
It was called PowerGamer and you are right I had posted a shot on BYOAC. It works well and I learned a ton, but I like HyperSpin much better. The themes are just way to cool. I actually considered creating a a similar transition/effect engine in C# and WPF. It really has a lot to offer. But I grow very tired of all the work it requires and the lack of support (none actually) I had. A buddy of mine used to test my previous incarnation and he was about as useless as a dried out turd.
There are a few video links you can check out if you interested. It may give you some additional ideas for HS.
http://adamkinney.com/blog/370/default.aspx
It's funny you should say that about bitching. I had some of the same gripes, but like I said, the themes idea is brilliant. So much so, I could have lived with some of the issues.

Glad everyones liking the new HS so far, I will keep adding better features this coming year.
The transitions video is pretty cool, that gives me some new ideas for new transitions. The transitions arent that bad to create, its just trying to think of cool ideas for them, and that gave me a couple ideas. I like the name Power Gamer to.

Re-reading my comment, I just wanted to add that it's not making me throw up in disgust or anything like that. The theme is really good, just my personal opinion on proper aspect ratios.

No biggee, I actually like it in the window like that , but of course I understand everyone likes something different. Hopefully we get more MAME themes to satisfy everyone.

I've been playing around with the new version all morning and I love it! Thank you so much for all your hard work.
I am having one issue though with Sega Model 2. It is an ugly exit. When I hit the ESC button it closes the emu and HS loses focus. I need to click on the HS logo on the task bar to bring it back up.
This happened to me with version 7.0 also. The fix was to download a modified Hyplerlaunch that Bill wrote. Can be found here: http://www.hyperspin-fe.com/forum/showthread.php?t=907&highlight=model
I tried using this Hyperlaunch and .ahk file but it didn't work either.
here are my settings:
[exe info]
path = C:\HyperSpin\Emulators\Sega Model 2\
rompath = C:\HyperSpin\Emulators\Sega Model 2\roms\
userompath = true
exe = emulator_multicpu.exe
romextension = zip
parameters =
searchsubfolders = false
pcgame = false
winstate = HIDDEN
hyperlaunch = true
Any ideas?

Could anyone help me setting up my u360's for the hyperspin menu's? I cant get the buttons (which count as joystick buttons) attached to my joystick to work. I am not sure how to set up the key for selecting games/menus to my joystick button.

I just wanted to say thanks again Bill for all the hard work on this new version. It was just a matter of minutes to set everything up from scratch the way it was before in v0.7 and everything worked great just out of the box, and it will be even much easier in the future with just an .exe update. 2009.. soon and this amazing frontend is a right product for its time. Well polished and full of eye-candy. It is like the transition from DOS to win3.1 when compared to all other frontends. There is no going back once you try this and it certainly lives up the slogan "believe the hype" =) Cheers

Greetings Circo and thanks for the reply! I had the exact same feeling with the transition from plain & static screenshots to your video previews back in the MameWah days =) The difference was and still is like day and night, I've donated in the past to the EmuMovies project and just donated again today =] The time and effort that you've put into the EmuMovies project is really appreciated by all of us. If i understand what you are saying: the joystick itself will no longer require me to use joytokey but if i want to use a joystick button to select games, exit the program etc i would for now still have to use joytokey?
button actually joystick buttons are settable
Not really sure what you mean by that, could you elaborate?

Cool, thanks for all the compliments, sorry Miguel, I dont even know what I said there, all I meant to say is just the joystick part works, I didnt spend time on the joystick button portion since we have the keyboard keys for that, my priority was just the analog support.
Are you saying your arcade buttons are setup as joystick buttons instead of keyboard keys?
miguelsluma
12-14-2008, 09:49 AM
Yes they are set up as joystick buttons. When using an U360 you have the choice to directly attach up to 8 buttons (+ a shift key for 8 more) to the joystick itself. It will then see the buttons as normal joystick buttons.
It is really easy to set up that way!

Some feedback on the PC Gaming section: i am not having much luck getting it to work.
I think the ini file included in the PC gaming addon from scrapple is not working anymore with the new hyperspin verison. Themes are not begin displayed and i am also having launching problems. Perhaps it would be possible to add a working settings file for the pc gaming section also.

btw, did the launch audio effects make the cut? Id love to launch a game in HS, and hear a specialized audio clip for that game when it launches (example: launch golden tee, and you hear a golden tee sound effect)..
anways, going to install tonight...
congrats BBB and crew
