Just another heads up....
For those who don't already know, there are some Cave SH-3 shmups now working in the latest MAME release (0.143u7)

The following games now run in MAME -

Death Smiles
EspGaluda II
Ibara
Muchi Muchi Pork
Mushihime Sama
Mushihime Tama
Plus a few clones, & what looks to be mahjong game.

Unfortunately no sound as yet, but the brief playtest I had was decent enough emulation - Yay. (They are still listed as not working, but ignore that, trust me)
There are also a few other interesting games that have been recently added too.
Have fun.

Did not know that, thanks. Hopefully sound will be within the next cpl releases.

That's pretty cool, hopefully we will see sound support soon. Would be great to get these running properly on Mame since it seems demul won't be out anytime soon.

Where did you get a new Demul at? Or is that early leaked 5.7 build?

Oh ye of little faith !
We're talking MAME here, not Demul (although Demul devs are involved.)
OK, well i'm pretty sure that MAMEdevs are involved, so I guess it can be considered official enough.
I've just had a quick play, and sound effects & music are all in there, plus there's been some optimisation, so everything plays at 100% speed on my cab.
(also you need to make sure that you have the most recent romsets with the sound roms)

Trust me, I don't mess people about, if DemonEyeX says it's true, then it's true.
Believe that.

Sorry - Link removed

Peace

Now those are great news, who would have thought those games would be playable on Mame before the demul release. I'm pretty sure Mame borrowed code from demul to run those games though.

DemonEyeX
10-22-2011, 07:27 PM
Yep, never saw that one coming.
Especially after all the controversy with those particular games.
The initial driver was written a long time ago,
But it's been heavily rejigged & optimised to get it running at decent speeds.
Plus it only took like 3 days from people speculating how long we would be waiting for sound, to us having fx & music.
Amazing stuff, huge thanks to all concerned (if they happen to frequent these forums)

What I wanna know is, what's gonna be next ?

it worked for me.

rygarmaster, I had the same problem trying to run them from within MAME itself, but I ran them from Hyperspin and they loaded up fine. Not sure what is causing the issue.

Do these work with any command line versions of MAME?

Do these work with any command line versions of MAME?

Yeah they do !
Make sure that you have the latest MAME release (0.143.9), and the most recent roms.
Although, be aware that you need a fairly beefy PC to run them all full speed.

pomme
11-03-2011, 06:48 PM
Goodness how good does your PC have to be to play these games? Mine I thought was decent but these games run so choppy they're unplayable.

DemonEyeX
11-07-2011, 08:34 AM
Some unfortunate news here.
It looks like Cave have asked MAMEdev to remove these particular games from the next release.
0.143u9 was the final release with the cavesh3 driver needed to emulate all those games.
I reckon that it will be a long while before we see these games back in MAME.
Not sure what the deal is with Demul, I'll post any news here when I get it.

brolly
11-07-2011, 09:14 AM
I was suspecting something like that might happen eventually, anyway we can still use 0.143u9 to play them. Hopefully they will be playable in demul, but I'm not confident we will see any release soon since development seems to have stalled.

brad808
11-07-2011, 09:57 AM
That does suck. As long as they leave dodonpachi alone i won't complain too much though ;)

DemonEyeX
11-13-2011, 04:33 PM
Gotta respect Cave's wishes though, they are still selling these games.
We need companies like that obviously, and I certainly don't want to see them go the way of so many other incredible coin op manufacturers.
Just make sure that you grab 0.143u9,
You can easily add these games to your main MAME XML using the -

<exe>"MAMECaveSH3"</exe>
(or whatever your system name is) method.

P.S.
For those having speed problems, I suggest that you google 'MAME slowpoke edition'

BooomBa !

Hopefully they will be playable in demul, but I'm not confident we will see any release soon since development seems to have stalled.

Actually, there have been a couple (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/213/sortt.png/) of recent (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/819/zerolu.png/) updates (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/338/hedhanter.png/) on the Demul front.
It looks like they're mainly concentrating on the dreamcast emulation side of it, & DX11 compatibility recently, but there will certainly be quite a few new playable naomi & naomi 2 games too, when it finally gets a release.
Hope that it's soon, Metal Slug 6 & other atomiswave games are pretty rough in fullscreen on those leaked 0.5.7 releases, & SH3 games were very slow.

DemonEye, you said to get .143u9, but these games won't work anymore once .144 comes out right? The only way to keep them would be to keep the older version of MAME?

Demoneye,
You can specify games to use certain systems to launch them.. EG have one mame game wheel but depending on the game use this alternate version of MAME.

Aside for that, I downloaded the 143 source all all DIFF files to u9 and none of the new cave games work. They got pulled.

Anyone have a U9 with these games working that is no nag?

Ahh, that makes sense. Thanks for the tip! Shame that they pulled those games from u9 already. Damn.

That's exactly what I was talking about.
In fact, my MAME wheel has about 20 other emulators added to it's database. (Including MAME 0.143u9 obviously)
It takes time, but it's well worth the effort.

since we already have the drivers and mame is open source couldn't someone just put the drivers back into a new version of mame?

keep in mind I have no knowledge of building mame etc, just a thought

nice, I think i'm currently at mame 141, have there been any other updates (other than cave) that make upgrading my romset to mame 141 worthwhile?

by the way, does anyone know where to find compiled nonag versions of mameplus?

Circo, can you let us know where in the emumovies ftp you uploade the vids?

*edit*

I've read on other forums people complaining about the lack of slow down.. and how it's not authentic emulation until mame emulates the slowdown too. Thoughts on this? I'd rather much prefer how the original developers intended the game to play (probably without slowdown) even if it's not arcade perfect.

Can anyone with a high end PC confirm that they have these games working 100% without any glitches, audio or video? I'm contemplating updating my mame pc and this might be a deciding factor. I have the games working now but not without audible glitches. Not sure if it's my pc is too slow or the games/ drivers causing issues.

they ran pretty well on my i7 cpu pc using mame, and mameplus, and even on my dual core 1.8 hertz duo core with slow poke mame.

Try slowpoke mame before you decide to upgrade

I'll probably just post it on the database section of the forum, didn't check wheels yet, but I'm sure some are already done on the MAME set we need to check it out to see what's missing.

I just picked up an I5 2400 pc for cheap on eBay. Once I get it up and running in my cab ill let u know. These games do take some horsepower. My e6700 was having sound skipping a lot with alot of enemies on screen. I couldn't take it anymore.

As some of you might already know, it's not very hard to create a diff patch similar to the hiscore diff patch, that contains the removed 0.143u9 cavesh3 driver code.
All you need are Mamecompiler64 (MinGW) and the official MAME 0.143u9 and 0.144 sources:

-install Mamecompiler 64 or simular
-Download 0.143 official MAME source
-G00gle for the 0.143 updates 1 to 9 and download them all
-Download 0.144 official MAME source
-Unpack both sources into your MinGW Sourcefolder (name them MAME0143u9 and MAME0144 or something)
-Extract the updates in the MinGW pathes folder
-Apply the updates in order to .0143 source (MAME0143u9)
-Create the diff file by comparing the 2 source folders in the order [new] [old]. The diff command is in the bin folder of both the 32 and 64 bit versions of MinGW:

diff -Nru [SourceFolder 0.144] [SourceFolder 0.143u9] > [filename].diff
-Edit the diff file:

Replace all occurrances of "C:\MinGW\source\MAME01434\src" with "old"
Replace all occurrances of "C:\MinGW\source\MAME0143u9\src" with "src"
-Delete everything but the 4 complete sections below (use notepad++ and set Syntaxis to diff for better section viewing):

diff -Nru old/mame/drivers/cavesh3.c src/mame/drivers/cavesh3.c
diff -Nru old/mame/drivers/csh3blit.c src/mame/drivers/csh3blit.c
diff -Nru old/mame/mame.lst src/mame/mame.lst
diff -Nru old/mame/mame.mak src/mame/mame.mak
-Save your cavesh3.diff.

PS. Please do not ask for roms, links to roms and MAME binaries here on this forum.

Hi

I do not get death smiles to work with my latest mame 0141. I get a black screen.
I have not tested it with 0143.u9 versionyet but its not possible to download. The latest is 0144 where they have removed death smiles.
Can you provide a link to 0143u9 and a working rom for death smiles please:)? Thanks

Sorry 711, but nobody here can help you with this.
Asking where to find roms is not allowed on these forums.
MAMEdev removed those games due to Cave's request, therefore linking to a build that runs those games is not going to happen here.

All i can say is Google it, everything you need is still out there, but it's not gonna get linked here.
