Hi all,

What do you guys use for keeping high scores, if anything? Most MAME games retain high scores, but what about console games and such? Do you know of any dedicated websites or applications?

Thanks!

I was wondering the same thing. I wish there was a way for console emulators to save hi scores. I read a while back that you would have to hack each rom individually to do this?

The game has to of been created with nvram support for saving high scores. If the game supports it, the emu should too. As long as you close the emu correctly, it should save. Some games require saving manually at some point, like beating the level. This isn't something you look into hacking to do.

But I was wondering if it were possible with Fusion etc.. for Master System and Genesis games such as shmups and a few other genres. I think this was the forum I read about the "hacking" on http://www.sega-16.com/forum/showthread.php?14578-Could-sram-high-score-save-be-hacked-into-roms

I already answered your question. Many games already support high scores. Also, nobody is going to hack each game to save high scores that don't already support it, that's a pipe dream.

Well, Being the SHMUP player I am, I tend to take a picture of the cabinet when I break my own records. If you think you're going to break that world record, start recording yourself of have someone help you do it. Then you can submit it to Twin Galaxies / SHMUPS System 11 Boards and have it verified right there and then. Those Dai Ou Jou Records won't beat themselves, ya know... If you want to see the current Worldwide and Western Records for these games, knock yourself out and look it up online.

King of Kong was great. If you like pinball, watch the film "Special When Lit". It should still be on Netflix instant watch :)

Speaking of Donkey Kong, I'm sure you can actually PASS the kill screen in the Japanese Version since it had the Floor Glitch on the 25m Screen. You'll also get higher scores due to having all 4 screens right on the first level as opposed to having to complete 2 loops to do so. You can tell if you have a Japanese version if there's engrish on the screen posted below...
HOW HIGH CAN YOU TRY XD

When I watched it, I wanted to fight Billy Mitchell.

Special When Lit is pretty good. I enjoyed it.

About the topic:

Even though MAME keeps hi-scores and we track them on there, my friends and I use a big white board and list all the hi-scores of the main games we play there as well, so you can see it as a whole. We mainly do this for arcade only and limit each player to one credit only. Its pretty fun this way.

Maybe a white board is the way to go. Or some digital implementation of a white board. I was really looking for a website dedicated to keeping high scores, but haven't been able to find one.

Hey, That's what I do when I invite my Friends over to participate in tournaments. Although they aren't very good at it, We have tons of fun comparing scores for the non-fighting games. I take photos for online submissions, but for local contests and submissions, it works wonders, even more so than photos.
