i use to emulate about 10 years ago. its changed a bit since then. I have the latest mame32 and it looks so basic. its only a menu with the game names. almost like a pause menu in a game. then i do not understand the .chds file not sure where to find them. I would like to make a arcade cabinet with all the emulation types. But i first need to figure out the emulators better to make the game i want play. i try to down load .0144s and its all just files. no program. if anyone can point me in the right direction would be appreciated.

You will have to get the latest mame build from
http://mamedev.org/
The binary is the actual emulator. Source code is what you downloaded. Look further down the page.
Chds are just extra resources for the roms imo. The roms stay in ZIP in the rom folder for mame. Then the chds get left in there folder in the same roms folder. You will have to locate both roms and chds to play a large portion of games.

If you were wondering, Mame32 PLUS is just a frontend. You'll need to grab MAME from mamedev.org if you want the program. In that case, you want the Binary. Not the source. If you were here for Hyperspin, then You won't need Mame32. You'll just need to point Hyperspin to your Mame Program Files. I can go into specifics about it if you want, so just drop a line and the friendly community will be more than happy to help. Welcome to the World of Emu, and if you play Neo-Geo worshippingly as I do, I can tell we'll be having a lot of netgames together soon.
