View Full Version : Multiple Rom Paths

I am just going to toss this out there now cause building my new box I can already see an issue with the way I am setting it up.
Each Emulator with in HyperSpin should be able to support multiple paths for roms just like Mame32 can do. It should also support sub dirs under that path as an option.
So... If I have my Mame roms in "C:\Roms\Mame Roms" and "C:\Roms\Mame Roms\CHD" (with sub folders for each game CHD) I think HyperSpin should support all paths please but not just for Mame, for all Emus.
Thanks for listening, the team here has been very helpful so far with a lot of my question.

in hyperspin the preferred way is to just put all the roms and emulator in subfolders of hyperspin itself, the folders are already there and everything. Not sure about multiple rom paths I'm sure someone else will chime in.

If thats the case then I have to uninstall and reinstall a lot of $hit. I guess a test run with some of this stuff under Vista isn't a bad idea but I can see a format coming once I get HyperSpin installed, well maybe. I don't know if I like that idea though... If I want to install Game Ex as well it seems like a bad idea to have everything installed under HyperSpin. I think the best way would be to have it sat like the way I have it sat already. I always backup my C: drive and would rather have the programs all installed on that and configured, including all front ends.
I have always install all my program on my main drive and storage on all my other drives.
You think this is a bad idea Joe?

you can still keep it seperate I was just saying that its already setup nicely for being under default folders inside hyperspin. I just generally don't install much to the root of my c drive.
I personally have my roms and emulators on a separate drive in a folder called emulation. That way if something happens to the os I can just wipe it clean and start over without having to move around my emulation stuff.

If you install stuff though windows I think certain files (sometimes) may get installed in the windows dir and if C gets cleaned out, some things that are installed to other drives may no longer work. I back up my C drive and install the roms on another drive as the roms are always backup some other place. If I had all the roms installed on C, C would become way too big.

Thats okay if C: is large... It causes issues when there is a large amount of folders in C:
like
C:\test
C:\test1
C:\test2
C:\test3
C:\test4
C:\test5
But like this
C:\test\test1\test2\test3
Is a better approch

I have mine like this...
C:\Emualtors\Daphne
C:\Emualtors\Mame
C:\Emualtors\Future Pinball
Then all my roms are on D:
D:\Roms\Laser Discs
D:\Roms\Mame
I plan on installing HyperSpin on C:
Maybe like C:\Front Ends\HyperSpin
Thoughts?

C:\emulation\Console\Nes\Videos
C:\emulation\Console\Nes\snaps\

I guess in the end it really does not matter much...
I was just trying to keep all the programs on one dir and the roms on another, its how I have always ran my PC setups.
Programs on C and every other drive is storage.

Yeah.. Ive ran configs about any way you really can.. As I get older its eaiser to have everything in one spot... Then I can do backups easier also.

You can always use hard links to have files appear in a single folder but physically spanning multiple disks.

Very usefull utility... I read about it at GE but never looked at it..
Perhaps if I get a bug to reorganize my stuff I will. :) But this should be great for those that have their stuff in multiple subfolders.
