View Full Version : Do you use HS in a videogame cabinet or something else?
I want to use HS for my MAME cabinet that is dedicated to MAME an no other programs or emulators. When browsing and posting in this forum, I see a lot of posts from people talking about using 1600x1200 resolutions, LCD screens, etc. This makes me wonder if a lot of people use Hyperspin with a Desktop PC or maybe an entertainment PC hooked up to a TV or other large screen.
Primarily, what kind of system do you use Hyperspin on? Is it a dedicated system or does it also do other functions? If using HS in an Arcade cabinet, what type of display does it have?
Thanks,
Wade
I have a dedicated cabinet that is dedicated to emulation only and that is where I use HyperSpin. My cabinet has a 27" television via component inputs and I run everything at 800x600.

I registered HS because I want to use it in a cab I am building with a 27" TV. I was only planning on 640x480, but if Dazz has 800x600 working I'll give that a try. The themes seem to work fine at the 640x480 resolution.

If you are going to use S-video you *may* be able to read 800x600, but if you use composite then you will definitely want to run 640x480.

Yes once you use soft 15khz or an arcade vga card
My arcade monitor uses 640x480 and hyperspin is perfect on it

I use it in an arcade cab, which has a 19" LCD at 1024 x768.

Most likely your 800x600 is just being downcoverted as standard def TV cannot natively output 800x600...although component is the best way to go with TVs (unless you are lucky and find a production monitor capable of RGB input)

I have my HS hooked up to a 42" Plasma running at 1680x1050, it is slightly stretched but isn't that noticeable. I also use 2 Xbox 360 controllers to control the HS and play Mame, and several other console emulators. I love it, its great for when I have people over.

I use it in my bartop arcade with a 17" CRT. I also plan to use it in two full size cabinets, one for me and one for my brother. They have 19" CRTs. I'll end up running all 3 at 1024 x 768.

I think the question was can HS run on an original cab monitor that only supports low-res. and the answer is yes. We all know that it can support hi-res and hi-def and LCDs, etc... that wasn't the question.
I suggest like someone else did using soft-15khz and if you can throw an extra $80 at it an arcadeVGA card, but HS itself can support low-res just edit your ini files.

Sounds to me like he was curious about what everyone was using :)

I’m using mine on my 52” LCD, I was surprised at how great it looked when I tried it the first time, with no fiddling with settings or anything.
My aim is to make this a sort of “super counsel” to replace all my old game systems
(I have had everything from the NES to 360 sitting next to my TV) With this I can finally do away with the pile of old counsels next to the TV, and the massive bin-o-games. Also cuts down on the amount of wires. The comp I’m using is a Micro ATX and is about the size of my 360. cant wait till all the software (themes and such) is all setup.
