I've started to knock-up a Genesis/Megadrive set of wheel images using the binders from boxart.

I will supply the images + the corresponding gamelist and a modified dat for a plug 'n' play solution.

Edit : now completed!

Cool, what were basically doing here is any game that has a US and EU release were doing for the official sets is to have just the US release, but if theres a megadrive game not in the US then we add that to the list to. There will definitely be an official set for this released after we do the SNES set.

I'm not over enthusiastic about doing a full set(Selfish I know) Because looking at my no-intro dat there are 1208 games most of which are unique, most of these I would never play, but I do understand your need for completeness. I guess having a complete list and a best of can't hurt it should save some people a lot of research and configuration.

Absolutely! Any help will be appreciated. Are you planning to cut the title out from the box art and utilize a transparency (like the Mame wheel images) or did you want to have a solid background (like the NES wheel images)?

The mame ones do look really cool and clever, not sure how easy that would be to impliment using boxart with it being so much smaller than mame marquees. to be honest I like the idea of the feel of browsing through the real boxes and of course it's a lot easier to impliment so i'll go with that I think.

I've attached a sample at the bottom of course when the full set is done all the boxes will be unique.

You know on a side note I just figured out that I can that I can cut the whole lot out in one go by batch processing the job with XNView I was gonna cut them out individually lol.

BadBoyBill

How big is it?

Ego-X
08-11-2008, 09:36 AM
There are 799 images, size is just under 20Mb's

BadBoyBill

Ok if you want to hang on to it for like 2 days I am going to open up the download section to where you can upload it. I think the torrent has died down enough to do this.

Excellent, I'm excited to take a look at this set.

@bill That's cool, thx :)

@amchine Well I wouldn't describe them as being anywhere near as good as your work! Art was never one of my strength's, but then the task I took on was never really about that. I do however believe they are more than adequate as placeholders for the time being while you concentrate on your own outstanding tasks.

Thanks for your support both of you!

Has this ever been released?

Ego-X

I did upload them but i'm guessing the boss wasn't happy with them because they haven't seen the light of day.

I can upload them to usenet for you if you have access to that.

Hmmm I'm not seeing this anywhere in the download section, unapproved or otherwise. If you could upload it again that would be great.

Completing Bill's recommendation.

BadBoyBill
09-09-2008, 09:10 PM
I recommend resizing these all to 400px width to fit the standard wheel image width.

Ego-X
09-09-2008, 09:34 PM
@Bill I didn't consider that, thanks for the input.

You can find the resized wheel images for download here..

PS dunno what's with the filename the wordpress file uploader changes it slightly.

Any megaupload links for these?

dpar
06-03-2009, 03:34 PM
I have them all collected and properly named. Actually I am up to 449 completed genesis wheel images, a collection of all the ones already done and from other systems as well as some of my own, I am working on the set slowly but surely.

StarControl

Thanks for working on this dpar! It's a big set and a lot of hard work, and badly needed by the project. It's one of the big must have consoles, and we are all chomping at the bit to see your finished product.

Why don't you upload what you got just in case you have a baby or something? You never can tell what might come up on a long project like this and it would be a shame to lose all that work. I've even heard of a couple of people around here losing all their hard work to a hard drive crash. Oops! Gotta go.... (StarControl runs off to back up his box art in progress collection...)

dpar
06-04-2009, 11:07 AM
Yeah I can upload what I have so far, I'll put it on the ftp. The majority so far were actually just pulled from the the systems and renamed but I have done a few too. Obviously there aren't any finished letters yet (although I'm almost completely done with A and working on B) since I literally had to go through and pull ones from mame etc which were duplicates but didn't have similar rom names, I'm sure there are still a few I missed too. But I'm at the point where I'm going through alphabetically so it's getting there.

dpar
06-04-2009, 06:05 PM
Ok I uploaded what was done so far to the ftp earlier.

dpar

Woohoo almost completely done with A and B about to start C!

You know what im so happy these are getting done, what i dont understand is why they wernt done a long time ago, i think the sega megadrive and the sega master system and snes were the best consoles of all time, im even gutting people are not doing sega themes.

Well at least the sega megadrive wheels are nearly done thank you very much guys for working on these.

great work dpar!!

StarControl
06-06-2009, 07:49 AM
They weren't done for a long time because the extraction of 800+ logos is hard work, and the thought of doing that many is very daunting to most, so congrats to dpar for taking up the task!

dpar
06-06-2009, 07:59 AM
Well yeah it's a lot of work but anything worth doing usually is right? :)

I don't know about "almost done" but I am getting there, I am up to 474 completed and counting.

SophT
06-06-2009, 08:19 AM
way to go dpar 5/8ths of the way there!

I think it's funny that megadrive will have wheels before SMS which only has like 200 games.

dpar
06-06-2009, 09:06 AM
Well I'd rather get the big one out of the way!

koolbrez67
06-06-2009, 02:18 PM
I give it up to you That is a big big job you have there

dpar
06-06-2009, 06:03 PM
Well I've been averaging about 10-12 a day at the moment so at that rate it'll take a little over a month to complete, maybe a little longer, but I'll get it done no problem.

mildanti
06-06-2009, 06:07 PM
well dpar want me to drop all my projects to help u out on this?
i'll start on z will get this shit done in half the time.

dpar
06-06-2009, 07:32 PM
Yeah if you want thatd be cool, if not don;t worry about it. If you have another set you are working on that's cool, but if you aren't doing anything big it would take away from then go ahead I'm working my way through C right now.

SophT
06-06-2009, 08:47 PM
hey dpar - do you have a good hiquality set of boxes or are you using the set I released? I know some of them were crappy so the logo would inherently be poorer quality.

dpar
06-07-2009, 12:03 AM
I am only using your set when I can't find anything of higher quality right now. I am getting boxes as I go from multiple sites for each individual one. A few of the ones that I don't find at least a decent quality for I am skipping over and will go back to at the end when I can do a little bit more searching.

If you have a list of boxes you have that are lower quality I could keep an eye out in my searching if I find them.

SophT
06-08-2009, 11:12 AM
hey man, no rush on these - but I'm just letting people know that I"m going to wait on the 3d genesis boxes until the wheel art is done so I can slap them on the side of the box :)

dpar
06-08-2009, 08:19 PM
Well I actually did 26 of em today (and yes my hands hurt) so it's time for bed for me, I'll do some more tomorrow! Up to 527 complete, woohoo!

mildanti
06-08-2009, 11:08 PM
then u should almot be done

dpar
06-09-2009, 10:46 AM
Haha, well I think there are what 780 some genesis games? I forget have to check, so like 250 left to go!

mildanti
06-09-2009, 10:59 AM
well i got v-z almost done

StarControl
06-09-2009, 11:59 AM
Have you guys tried using the layer mask extraction technique yet? Billpa didn't talk about it in his tutorials, but I just tried it last night, and it seems to work really well for fuzzy edged stuff. It's what the ad agencies use on hair when they want to put a model against a different background. Apparently it works so well that it is the reason why they removed the extraction filter from CS4.

dpar
06-10-2009, 08:06 PM
Ok progress report... I am almost done with A through H, other than a few which I am still looking for decent art to extract from. So with mildanti working from Z we are getting there!

dpar
06-12-2009, 02:40 PM
Ok I am now starting on M!

dpar
06-14-2009, 06:54 PM

dpar
06-15-2009, 06:06 PM
Ok done all the way through Q, starting on R soon!

Mildanti you around? Just wondering how far you got with yours?

dpar
06-16-2009, 07:21 PM
Done up through R and working on S now! Up to 692 completed wheel images! Mildanti also hooked me up with v-z, other than a few stragglers I need to do.

Ok guys I am still working on this, I need a little quick help though.

I see there is a Bubba N Stix as well as a Bubba N Stix - A Strategy Adventure, both listed through Hyperion. From everything I can tell these are the same game correct? Just one listed from Europe and the other USA?

And I have been unable to find any information on Sonic & Knuckles + Sonic the Hedgehog (had no trouble finding #'s 2 and 3 but this one I can't find anything at all on it, anyone have any info on this as well?)

StarControl
06-21-2009, 11:35 AM
The two Bubba N Stix's are the same game so you only need one logo. I always go to gamefaqs.com to check on information like that.

Here's some info on the Sonic titles:
