Man thats gotta be a killer list buddy - are you going to release a WHD theme?
That would be nice
espontaneo

Well it takes about 2 minutes to convert the main theme into the default theme for the amiga...

Very impressive, here's a few more recommendations. Not that these might be beneficial to others rather than myself as I limit the non-arcade emulators to games that are playable on a cab. Secret of Monkey Island is a FANTASTIC game, but certainly not "cab'able". Still, I know others will use HS on their home PC so here's some additional games you HAVE to try out.
- Rocket Ranger
- King of Chicago
- Banshee AGA (great shooter!)
- Pinball Fantasies (AGA if possible)
- Ruff and Tumble AGA
- Slamtilt
- Another World/Out of this world (though the 3DO version is better)
- Battle Squadron (awesome shooter!)
- Worms the Directors Cut (supposed to have added stuff, never tried it)
- Jimmy White Whirlwind Snooker
- Barbarian (Psygnosis)
- Stardust (awesome shooter, I think there's an AGA version out?)
- Super Stardust (that's the AGA version I think)
- Dungeon Master
- Apydia (great shooter)
That's enough!
Also, not sure if this is a WHDload'able game, but Defender of the Crown 2 was fantastic for fans of the original (was a CD32, don't know if an AGA version came out but the CD version had awesome sound and cool animations added).
espontaneo
02-13-2009, 04:20 PM
Winuaeloader has mouse emulation, so many games are "cabable" that otherwise wouldn't be. Mapping a few keys would make alot of games playable, including Monkey Island, especially the function and number keys.
Though yes, some games will be awkward.
Defender of the crown 2 is CD32
As for the games pick a couple of you want a set anytime soon :)
The Loafer
02-13-2009, 05:14 PM
certainly from a perspective all games could be "cab'able" but would you stand up for hours and play Monkey Island?!? I'd play that through emulation, but from the comfort of my computer chair ;)
Yeah, I have DotC2 for my CD32, was wondering if either they did a 1200 version or if someone "converted" it to play from a standard AGA amiga, which I thought might make it more WHDLoad compatible (whatever the hell WHDLoad is, been a while since I messed around with emulation :).
Ok, if I have to pick some "I" would use, easy as pie:
- Banshee AGA (great shooter!)
- Pinball Fantasies (AGA if possible)
- Slamtilt AGA
- Super Stardust AGA

and i'm also working on the cd32...

02-13-2009, 08:25 PM
Dude, it's an adventure game, it might work in a cab but it's not MEANT to be run from a cab! Dang it ya gone and got me upset now! ;)
Yay for CD32 support, there's a couple of gems in there. Thanks!

02-14-2009, 12:05 AM
The Loafer not every one uses hyperspin for a cab you know mate, im hooking mine up to a 52 inch lcd with wireless pads and mouse, for me i think the amiga is great in hyperspin espontaneo is doing a great job.
espontaneo
02-14-2009, 03:06 AM
That rules out many many games on most systems. No amiga games (except for a few obscure arcade machines and prototypes) were "designed" for a cab, so that's a pretty incongruous statement!
My cab is a "museum of games", by your logic I'd have the snes on there but no chrono trigger! Which would be like having the entire Scorcese collection without Goodfellas!
I have seating and the keyboard and mouse pull out on a sliding shelf so it's quite comfy for playing. :P
The Loafer
02-15-2009, 11:42 AM
I think you're misunderstanding me:
I said: "Not that these might be beneficial to others rather than myself as I limit the non-arcade emulators to games that are playable on a cab."
I then proceeded to provide an example of great games. Some of the games go contrary to my personal recommendations of what consists a good cab game (see Dungeon Master as n example) because as I stated, I know many will use this on their PC. IE: I know not everyone thinks like me so yep, all games are good fit.
I think there's a misunderstanding of the word design, or rather an improper use of it on my part. Sorry about that. I mean it in a way that you could take that Amiga game, put it in an arcade and people would have said "great game" and not "WTF is that doing here? I don't have 2 hours available to play this?" ;)
Anyway, in no way am I suggesting everyone change their thinking to fit mine. Carry on as you wish, I was just providing commentary.
Darkmindz: What the heck? What did I type that indicated he's not doing a good job or that the Amiga should not be in HyperSpin? This is all awesome stuff!

Head over heels is hardly a priority for the amiga, given it's an 8 bit game (it came out four years later than the speccy/amstrad version according to HOL). Though I'll have a look...
There are loads of games that are not done yet, It's taken me weeks and weeks of obsessive girlfriend upsetting behaviour to get this far, so don't hold your breath.
Also you will all notice speedball 2 doesn't work, you have to pm me about it...
Please, can you forget the xml for now, the full one will have the year, developer, genre information and will be done when it is done.

Ok i've upped the wheel, box and video, you lucky personage.....at this rate I'll be finished the set in ooh about 3 years....That was a hard one and it is still a bit sucky....
All that for a Spectrum game...
Anyway, I'm going to work more on the cd32 for a bit because, well it is cab friendly and the number of games is limited, so I can actually finish it sometime this decade...
I've pretty much got a complete set of box art to be getting on with as well.
I'm not sure about naming conventions though....what are people using mine are all like:
Akira (1994)(ICE)[!]

espontaneo:
most disc based systems are clrmame'd and dat'd over at tosec. It's what I used for Sega CD, and what Lashek is using for DC & Sat, they also have cd32 available:
http://toseciso.org/list.php?sys=1&cat=1
dats/cuesheets are available on the main page. I think this is the 'preferred' method of naming when no no-intro is available.
FYI - they have akira listed as: Akira (1994)(ICE)[!] so you're probably pretty safe, but it can't hurt to re-audit with a current dat just - in - case...

StarControl
02-25-2009, 01:41 PM
I made an XML and put it up on the Hyperspin FTP in the MISC\Databases\Commodore Amiga directory. The descriptions are cleaned up, but I didn't do the year and manufacturer research. Hopefully this will encourage a few others to take a look at your efforts.
Great work! It looks like you put a lot of effort into it!
StarControl
02-25-2009, 06:02 PM
I decided to go ahead and research the manufacturer/date/genre information for the XML. I'm about two thirds of the way through it and should finish in a day or two. I'm getting all the info from the Hall Of Light.
StarControl
02-26-2009, 11:54 AM
OK. The XML with all the manufacturer/year/genre information is up on the Hyperspin FTP server now. I am unsure of the genre system so that may need changing. What I did was take the genres from Hall of Light. I renamed "Sport and games" to "Sports", "Beat-'em-up" to "Fighter" and "Shoot-'em-up" to "Shooter" to make it a little more compatible with the Mame genres. Multiple genres I separated with a slash. I did not include subgenre information like horizontal , vertical, iso, or 3D. For cases of multiple manufacturers i just picked one. I used the publisher and not the design house.
Going through all the game info was like a trip down memory lane for me. I'm really looking forward to spending some time playing the games once I get winuae set up in Hyperspin.
espontaneo
02-26-2009, 12:11 PM
I realise this is a community project but I will be producing an xml, with designers, not publishers (that information is pretty irrelevant in this case) like having the publisher on a book and not the author. Besides some games were published by several publishers. It's virtually meaningless.
As I continue with the set I won't be manually adding each game to an xml until I have done about 250 games which will cover the vast majority of peoples favourites. That is why I haven't done the xml yet, I still use sydaroa's tool for speed and convenience. It means I don't have to keep track of every game I add as well until that stage.
Just be a bit more patient please....your list is already out of date
there's plenty of other stuff you could be doing for the project, and have a little consideration that I might be a bit put out by this sort of thing when I'm putting so much work in....I've been doing the amiga whdload since december.
Isn't there some kind of etiquette here?

espontaneo,
I in no way meant to offend you. I just needed an XML to look at your excellent work and didn't know where sydaroa's tool was so I made one myself. I thought it might help you and others. You've made it quite clear that it doesn't help you, but I still think it might help others take a quick look at what you've got going on here. I never knew that seeing a need and pitching in was a breech of etiquette.
I'd be happy to help you keep the XML updated per your preferred standards if you'd like. If you don't like then this will be my single public effort in the Amiga field and I'll keep my nose out of your business. Have at it. And I do really appreciate all the work you have put into it so far.
That said, none of us "owns" any of these systems and if Darkmindz wants to spend his time creating themes for selected Amiga games then I for one will be cheering him on and downloading them, even if he doesn't do 150, 250 or 1000 of them. In my mind they will be very complimentary to the work you have already done. The Amiga was a very special system to a lot of us and it deserves more than one artist no matter how good that one artist is.

If you follow headkazes' link on that page it leads you to the KGwhdload set http://kgwhd.whdownload.com/ and winuaelaoder which is what this set is based on using. (no disk swapping, loading times, cracktros, emulated mouse via joystick etc)
Fifou, no I don't recreate all the logos just when necessary (though there are some I have done that need that work.) but when I do, I use Photoshop 7 or CS4, Illustrator CS4, Flash, vector magic (for auto vectorizing). I've only just learned how to use illustrator so I will be going back and redoing some of the wheels with that....
Are you think of helping out with the wheels and box art set that would be great.....I'm not working through the list from start to end, so don't worry about that. There are over 2000 in the set :) so there are plenty to go round. If you make some just post them in a new thread, or just post a list of games you will do wheels for (say about 20 for now).
I really hope we can work together and get a set finished. Myself I'm a bit sick on endless wheels atm but will get back to them soon after some silly side projects.

Thanks.
haha, i'll forget the no-intro zips then if i can just download the whole amiga collection from that site.
Really appreciate the work on this espontaneo, amiga was my first computer as a kid, I used to go to my uncles once a month and collect a shoebox of games, i'd get back and half wouldn't work but it was still great. I remember having friends at the time with consoles and only a few games and I had loads of amiga ones. Amiga forever now :)
If theres a vote for theme most popular games to get their themes first, i'll add my faves:
moonstone
the new zealand story
turrican 2
zenon II (i seem to remember the music being amazing)
the chaos engine
syndicate
speedball 2
pinball fantasies
sensible soccer
jimmy white's worldwind snooker
www.lemonamiga.com/games/votes_list.php << nice little list and if you click the links you get a little demo flash video (might be able to steal them for HS :) )

I have most of those games (including xenon 2 ;) ) on the wheel, box and video set, you will find released the ftps for here and emumovies....
<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/oCmVhLg_uCE&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/oCmVhLg_uCE&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
This video is a bit out of date but you get the idea...
I will add once again that themes for all games on all systems are unlikely......

They look good, nice and clean. Don't worry about starting from Z just do the games you want to do :)
You don't have to post them all here, but you could keep a list...I don't know about french language games either, they should not be in the main set, we should have an alternate set for them.
I'll pm you my email so you can send me them.
Also, are you just doing the cleaned boxes for the wheels you are doing?

enjoying this whload business.
Looking forward to the release espo.
espo - i added your amiga main theme, created an xml, added the paths and extensions etc in hq but I can't 'enter' amiga in hs, do I need a default theme or something?
In my winuae loader, about 10-15 games aren't displayed (of which include: speedball 2 and turrican 2 don't show), but they're there are confirmed as being there by checking the path with a dat,
espontaneo

Ok if your list doesn't come up there is something wrong with the xml (it's probably named incorrectly or you would just have a black screen).
Secondly I have never used the kgwhdload dat and think that it may be more up to date than winuaeloader. If you just download the games from kgwhdload, they work, the dat may be renaming them so that winuaeloader doesn't recognise them because it's database is old....
I have added a couple of games (xenon2 and speedball2) to the whdload.xml....which has also been significantly tweaked to improve performance (see my other posts on amiga).
Pm me for more info...
Fifou all the box art is up on the ftp but I can email you it if you want.

Espontaneo : what is the recommended size of boxscans to fit in your default theme for Amiga ? (I've tried it yesterday : one word : PERFECT !)
I'll send you a first mini pack with the 4 I created (wheel + boxes)
Then : I've made a list of whdloaded games I kept and I'll continue making wheels/boxes for these then complete with the ones missing.

So what's the plan for making these available to the rest of us? Are you trying to hit 500 games, or do we have to wait until you've done every game ever for the Amiga or what?

Why dont you creat a wip folder for yourself on emumovies like I have and put the flvs there...
