Contrary to popular belief, the PC gaming scene doesn't lack quality "arcade" games.

I present to you another theme for a fine game:
Cave Story

This name should be familiar to all gamers, as the game is quite old (2004), very popular and so well done that it's awaiting a re-release on the Wii through Virtual Console.

In the case someone doesn't know, the original PC Game is a freeware platformer made by a guy know as Pixel (Daisuke Amaya), so you can google "Cave Story Deluxe" and download it, already fully translated.

Here is a screenshot of the theme in action:

Click the image to be taken to the theme page.

Click here to download the video for this theme (http://www.mediafire.com/file/mkzynz2n2uc/cavestory.flv)

The theme has been uploaded and awaiting approval.

As there is no real "art" for the game, I had to do with the little non-spoilerish art made by the author and some in-game assets.

As always, comments are welcome!

So.... is the theme so bad and beyond recovery or noone ever heard of this game?
I'm interested in constructive criticism also, not only praise :P (even though with this theme I don't know what I could have done differently)

I've never heard of the game. So can't give much. Just one of those things.
I've been in the same boat.

Constructive Criticism

Scale of the characters look small. Scale everything besides video and background up 100-200%
Try outline strokes on the bunny and Logo.

Good Luck.

Do you mean scaling only the bunny and the girl (on the right)?
Or the game level too?

Thanks for your input.

Is something like this better?
http://i44.tinypic.com/2lwksnk.jpg

Created different, bigger background, made the "rabbit" bigger, added art of the protagonist, all outlined.

I tried rotating video and logo, but there is a strange bug wich makes the video smaller, even though the dimensions in the .xml are the right ones.
Also, the logo rotation wasn't saved to the .xml

That looks much better but you should vectorise the characters to achieve a smooth look, at the moment they look as rough as a badger's scrotum...

Looking good. I would increase the text logo to about 800 pixels wide. Even if it overlaps video. Just a thought.
It's not that its wrong. Theres no such thing. :) It just makes it look like other current themes scale and size.
I'd even enlarge the bunny and girl even more. If they start looking pixelated. You might need to convert to vector art and reclean.
Google software for vector conversion. Or Illustrator's Live trace feature is pretty nice.

The characters are big, they occupy 1/3 of the screen each, leaving just the space for the video... I have them vectorized so making them bigger is not a problem, but I think the theme looks bad that way.
However, I can make the title bigger.

In the meantime, the first theme was approved and can be downloaded. What happens when I have a newer version to upload? Can I update the theme, do I have to delete the old one or what?
