Hey guys

Is their like a good thread or definitive resource that outlines the building of a pinball cab? Like wood cut measurements, best TV sizes and types, etc., etc

I found several posts and threads in different forums but they are all scattered and sometimes conflict / overlap.

Does the LCD really need to be 1080p or is that overkill? Will 720p look just as good?

I'm thinking of building a mid sized cab setup. Maybe a 30 inch LCD? Would be for both FP and the 16x9 tables for VP

Thanks

Not sure about other resources than the cab building forums on FP and VP sites. But there is definitely a noticeable difference in quality when going from 720p to 1080p so I would go as high as you can afford.

720p doesn't cut it, you cannot make out the text on the playfield and you lose a lot of fine detail. VP is probably OK with 720p but FP really needs 1080p to shine.

You're right Xevious99 .. I've tested FP on a 52" LCD 1080p => no problems or quality loss whatsoever! With the 'rotation option'built in it's like Paradise!

Problem with 52" doesn't fit any Pinball Cabinet: 40" - 42" should be the max when building a Cabinet by using an 'old Pinball Cabinet' as a base.

Why not put it in arcade render mode?

I might be alone here, but I kind of prefer the scrolling mode over the Arcade Mode because it's feels more three dimensional to me, and I think it looks better as well. Does anyone else share my preference, or am I just weird?

I don't particularly care for it myself, but it should work in the front end if you use backbox on second monitor and rotate the playfield in video settings. the problem with that view in a cabinet is you can't save the camera position. that's just my opinion

the scrolling is cool....but it actually makes me dizzy after awhile. :puke:

Hey guys! What is better to do when building a cabinet. Build it as a wide body or normal cabinet size? So what I'm really wondering is... Do the wide body arcade games like Twilight Zone look OK on a normal cabinet size or how would a normal game like Theater of Magic look on a wide body cabinet?

I would like to go wide body but I guess it all depends on which is the better way to build.

Thanks!

doesn't really matter

every monitor screen is 16:9 - so you always have same ratio, regardless if you are in wide or non wide cab

that ratio screen is little too short for normal cab (so you add apron in empty space in front), and in wide cab it fits just right from end to end, it can even be bezelless

I put a list of all my parts (with links) in my build thread that I used. I also have links to the cabinet plans (in Mameman's thread). Link is in my sig.
