View Full Version : Game naming scheme?

Going through the database files for the different systems, I noticed that the names of each game (which also must be the rom filename) are not the standard format used by tools like Goodtools to rename rom files. Is there another tool I can use to standardize my collection to the way you have it set up in the database files?
For example, using Goodtools on my n64 roms gives me names like:
GoldenEye 007 (U) [o1]
Harvest Moon 64 (U) [!]
Mario Party 3 (U) [!]
but in the n64 database file, these same games are listed as
007 - GoldenEye (USA)
Harvest Moon 64 (USA)
Mario Party 3 (USA)
I've been using regular expressions to rename the (U) into (USA), but there are a lot of other little differences like "GoldenEye 007" to "007-GoldenEye" that mean each rom has to be renamed manually.
Its not that big of a deal if there is no tool to rename based on CRC or something, but i wanted to check before I go through my nes collection, which is a lot bigger than my N64 one.
BTW, thanks for the great frontend!!
edit: oops i guess this could have been posted on the other forum. sorry

Every game shpuld be using the latest No-Intro naming convention.
Dats to rebuild your sets can be found here: No-Intro (http://WWW.NO-INTRO.ORG)

I plan to supply the modified no-intro dat that matches the megadrive gamelist i'm working on. Might be an idea to make this standard practice until HS is able to create dat's. it will make it much easier to copy and rename roms for use in HS.
Just a thought.

whats the easiest way to convert my Goodtools roms into No-Intro? I'm trying RomCenter right now but can't figure out how to massively rename my files into another convention. They are all showing up as "Unknown" when i load them into Romcenter with the no-intro DAT file...

A lot of cruft was removed in the no-intro dat so there will be a lot of unknowns, also the naming scheme is slightly different.
Obviously they shouldn't all be unknown! Are all the icons in RC grey? or are there a lot of yellow(just wrong name generally)? RC will just rename the yellow ones.
Tip : Make sure your working with a backup set at this point!

I think I'm doing it right, but they all turn up gray and the program doesn't want to rename them. I've attached an image of what my romcenter looks like to see if you can figure out what I'm doing wrong...
Thanks!

Romcenter doesn't appear to work properly with the XML files it does the same for me here.
I attached a DAT that works correctly.
In future I would suggest getting DAT's here... http://forums.no-intro.org/viewforum.php?f=3
Their packs seem to have native DAT's for RC

Did a little research. When using a clrmamepro xml style dat it RC doesn't load the nes plugin which is needed so that it ignores headers.

Check http://www.waste.org/~winkles/ROMLister/
As listed on his site one of the features of romlister has the option to output lists for HyperSpin, not sure how involved it gets but its worth a shot, it would be cool for anyone here that uses it to provide feedback.

I've looked at that before Bill but I got the impression it only supports MAME am I wrong?

Oh I think your right, I'll see if I can ask SpiderStyle to make list building for non mame emu's a priority when he has a chance to get back to HyperHQ. Thanks.

for those of you trying to convert n64 games to no-intro format you may have to use the tool "Tool64" or "ucon64" to byte swap them. The correct format is v64. It throws alot of people off. Here is a thread on it at the no-intro forums.

Hopefully it'll save some of you from redownloading the large set.

Cool, thanks for posting that. Maybe something can get added to the wiki on that.

Your welcome. I added the info to the wiki in the documentation section under emulators/configuration.
If I find time I'll try to add more things to the wiki.

Glad it was useful.
Quite why I posted it in a N64 thread completely eludes me now :banghead:
