That's right! It's finally ready for the public!
http://i42.tinypic.com/2ilh9i8.jpg
Powered by Hyperion
Current Version: 1.1
What is HyperList?
An easier way to manage your lists from the comfort of your own desktop rather then having to use several applications or go to several resources. It is powered by Hyperion, meaning that if I update Hyperion, you can update HyperList's databases from two simple clicks.
Due to this being a PC application, this also gives the added benefit of scanning the ROMs on your computer, managing the downloaded lists, auditing your themes, and even submitting things to Hyperion! (some of these are still in the works)
Requirements:
Windows 2000/XP/Vista
.NET Framework 2.0 or Higher
32 MB of RAM or higher (If you don't meet this, wtf are you doing here? :D)
7MB of free disk space (this is included for added comic value)
Enough Rambling!

Download link removed due to upcoming release HS Release

Shit, now I should put an exe link in HyperHQ just to open this from the game list tab, instead of making something like this myself. And a theme auditor is MUCH needed!
Lashek

The theme auditor doesn't fix any problems yet, but it can report bad filenames in the XML files :)
Next release will include more enhanced auditing/fixing. :)

way to go lashek. is the 'hyperion database' link working for dir2xml yet? I can't remember from testing but I thought it was.
yay no more game over screens. you work amazingly fast.
Lashek
05-01-2009, 12:35 PM
Yes, the dir2xml is fully functional from my own testing. Even added in the "Exclude unmatched information" so that if a game is found in the folder but is not found in the Hyperion database, it will be ignored.
You still lose the game though. In fact, I just lost the game by thinking about the game. Damn.

Just had a play with this it's really well done! those databases must have taken a lot of work to create. Stunning mate, just stunning!
I do have one change that I would like to see and that's the removal of extra info in the game description field, for example the country, rev etc.

You would think that, but that part was already done. :)
The "Update Databases" feature actually connects to Hyperion and builds the XML's straight from Hyperion's data, so that part was already done. Just needed to pull it. Just one benefit my application will have over any other XML List app (Direct access will not be given to any application I am not a part of in some fashion). :)
I do have one change that I would like to see and that's the removal of extra info in the game description field, for example the country, rev etc.
I'll look into this soon. Hyperion already has it when using the website to generate the databases. My prime concern right now is the Audit Themes portion, followed by the edit ROM List. However, for now, you could use the built-in feature of HS to ignore special information (works on most games, but not every single one)
=)

I wasn't aware of the ignore special info flag which ini does that go in and what is the syntax please?
NVM I see it now :)

Well that was nice.
XP. Double-click HyperList.exe in the hyperspin folder and immediately receive "HyperList.exe - Application Error
The application failed to initialized properly (0xc0000135). Click on OK to terminate the application."
Lashek

It's not recommended to use it in the same folder as HyperSpin, and you want to make sure to have the mysql.data.dll file in there as well as the config folder other then the HyperList.exe program.
Also make sure you have .NET Framework 2.0 installed
Actual testing by myself has only been performed in Windows Vista and Windows 7 each with .NET Framework 2.0-3.5

Alright, I've re-uploaded the package to Hyperion for download. There are no differences to what is being used already.
However, it now has a proper installer, and checks for the needed requirements for the program to work. This has been tested on my setups locally and has been met with no issue so far. Please report any other bugs so I can check into them further. :)
Please download this updated version if you are having problems when launching.

1.1 uploaded, no big changes other then the Theme Manager which will soon allow you to install a new theme straight from a ZIP file, and remove themes.
A Backup theme feature will be added as a checkbox when you remove a theme in the next big update, I just wanted to get Dazz' request tossed in. :)
How to update:
- Redownload from Hyperion at http://hyperion.xeraweb.com and run the installer
OR
- Open the attached ZIP file and replace your HyperList.exe with the one in the zip. This will ONLY work if you already have HyperList installed.
Here's a screenshot of the new tool as well!

Feedback needed!
Attached is a "Work in progress" proposed remake of the Audit Themes portion. As you can see, I've renamed it to Theme Manager and did away with the added popup (I'd rather keep everything in one window if possible).
Is it easily understood? Suggestions for improvement? Critics? It will work the same way as the Theme Manager, but with the audit feature built-in. It makes no sense to have an "audit" and "manage" section, because auditing is a form of managing :)
As for the install theme option, yes, it works. Next release will allow installation of themes. :)
However, Next release also won't be available for a while. Need to get Fix Themes working and rewrite the auditor to work better for this new format. :)
Nice. I like.
These apps are great and functionality is just getting better and better every day. BUT... I personally would rather see Game List/Rom Management over any other features. Let's face it... If it's not for game lists then everything else is moot.
Am I the only one that thinks this way?

Hyperlist is great but I had a quick question.
When I go to download a user created rom list for MAME (working gamelist)
I was unable to get hyperlist to make a complete list from my mame rom directory (6000+ roms in it)
My question is once I click the download and it generates a list what is the method to save the XML in a compatible format so that
Hyperspin will recognize it. I tried just using firefox to save the page as my MAME FULL Set 6K.xml
And it looks nothing like (jumbled) from the other smaller lists in Hyperspin.
Thank you

I don't recommend using dir2xml on your MAME Set due to CHD's, etc. Use the Genre filters built in or pick your games from the list and move them to your active list.

When you save it, it saves as generate.php, which you'll need to rename to Whatever you want.xml (IE: MAME.xml) and move it to your HyperSpin Databases folder of the appropriate system. Then you can use your Genre key (default: G) to bring up a list to choose it. Otherwise, you can name it MAME.xml and have just the one list. :)

I've really been enjoying Hyperlist. It is so nice being able to quickly generate an XML based on my ROM set with the available database info in it. I just discovered the theme auditor today, and that looks like a feature that could become very useful as it gets developed. I do have a few suggestions that would make it even easier to use:
1) It would be nice if you could set up the directory structure in a config file, so that if you have a nonstandard install you wouldn't have to keep re-navigating the whole directoy tree.
2) It would be nice to just specify the root (c:\hyperspin or "f:\arcade" in my case) and have it figure out the rest as much as possible.
3) When I generate a theme audit, I would like to be able to copy the results to the clipboard so I can paste them somewhere and work with them. At the very least, I would like to be able to turn off all the theme OK messages so I can just get a simple list of errors that need fixing.
4) It would be nice to have an option to leave all the ROM tagging information out of the description field in the XML. So something with a ROM name of "1080 Snowboarding (Japan, USA) (En,Ja)" would be described simply as "1080 Snowboarding". If you wanted to get really fancy, I prefer to leave tags like (Unl) and (Proto) in, but I would gladly give up that detail if I could skip the whole description editing step after I make an XML.

This has been planned from the start, but I didn't actually write it because I just wanted it to work (I'm somewhat lazy at times. xD)
2) It would be nice to just specify the root (c:\hyperspin or "f:\arcade" in my case) and have it figure out the rest as much as possible.
This is slated for when question point 1 is addressed. :)

The theme auditor currently included was quickly tossed together 24 hours before public release, so I just slapped it together and tested it on my setups. The theme auditor has been completely redone and will be included in the next release.
4) It would be nice to have an option to leave all the ROM tagging information out of the description field in the XML. So something with a ROM name of "1080 Snowboarding (Japan, USA) (En,Ja)" would be described simply as "1080 Snowboarding". This was suggested a while ago. This will be toggleable when I put the settings in for option 1 and 2 above. :)
There's a lot of things I haven't posted about, or even notated simply because I love just disappearing on some things for a bit and coming back with a huge surprise. More fun that way.
I'm also working on getting people together to streamline Hyperion management as it's impossible for me to stay on top of every system database as well as manage HyperList, etc. As a result, things are getting backed up / delayed / outdated. :(

I look forward to the huge surprises. BTW, I tried Hyperlist in compatibility mode on my xp64 system and it still won't start. But don't think I'm not enjoying it as is because I am.

So far, on Windows Vista 32 and 64-bit, it works just fine without anything special needed.
Same with Windows 7, both 32 and 64-bit.
For Windows XP (both 32 and 64-bit), it requires .NET 2.0 or higher (2.5 recommended atleast)
When in doubt, install the latest .NET Frameworks and make sure they are up to date and you shouldn't have any problems.
StarControl
06-11-2009, 10:51 AM
I'm not sure installing the latest is the best thing. I believe I had installed .NET 3.0. I know I had to have a .NET installed before my ATI video driver would install. Anyway, I installed 2.0 last night and Hyperlist seems to be working fine now. My Turok wheel text bug is still there though.

Is there a Hyperlist for dummies? Basically I want to have the option in Hyperspin of selecting Mame from the Wheel and then having it only list certain games, not all of them. Additionally, is there a way to have multiple lists within MAME and have them show up? What I mean is that I would like to be able to click the wheel to select MAME and then have another wheel that comes up with some options like "favorites", "All MAME", "Fighting", "Flying" etc. Then when you click that wheel, it takes you tot he respective games. Is there a way to do this?
Thanks for all of your time!
Cheers,

06-26-2009, 06:44 PM
Yea its called the genre key...I believe G. You can make multiple xmls for MAME and then use the genre key to call them up.
acevedor2
06-26-2009, 07:17 PM
Thanks! I'll try some more searching and see what I can find for the genre key.
For hyperlist, when I create the xml with it, it saves it as dir2xml. I assume I have to rename it to MAME.xml if I want hyperspin to be able to use it - correct?
Lashek
06-26-2009, 07:32 PM
You can name it whatever you want, so long as it ends in .xml :)
So... if you want genres, you would have Fighting.xml, Shooters.xml, etc.
MAME.xml is the default list that pops up when you open the MAME Wheel. HS names MAME.exe "All Games" in the genre list.
acevedor2
06-27-2009, 05:45 PM
Thanks. I'll try it this evening.
I assume I just assign the "G" key to a button so I can access it via the CP.
Also, I don't see a way to make a custom list using Hyperlist. Am I doing something wrong? I see where you can create the Genre lists. I also see where you cn load the list of roms in the other tab, but you can't really do anything with them.
Is there a wayt o go through the roms one by one in Hyperlist and select only those you want, and then have it make an xml file?
Thanks again for all of the support.
Cheers.
Lashek
06-27-2009, 06:11 PM
at this moment in time, no.
However, you can do that using Hyperion.

HyperList is far from complete, and this is one thing that will be in there. I am in the process of rewriting HyperList to accomodate some severe backend changes :)

You could go through your roms one by one and sort them into different directories and then make an XML off of each of those directories. Once your XML's were made you could reunite them all back into the original directory. Of course, that works much better for the consoles that use meaningful ROM names than for the ridiculous 8 letter naming convention of MAME.

@Lashek:
I think what j5350 is asking for is recursive scanning for your files. Or to just be able to build an XML off of directory names without recursive scanning.
j5350
08-04-2009, 11:12 AM
Yes, being able to build the list off of directory names. For example, my psx games are located in:
E:\Roms\Sony Playstation\Game Name\
Then in each game folder is the bin/cue or similar files. It would be great to be able to scan the main folder to build the list. Especially since redump keeps pumping out new titles. :)

I run Hyperlist.
Check on "create..." tab. Check all genres, then "separate...".
It should create a .xml for each genre, and it does but... they are empty. They only have this text:
<?xml version="1.0"?>
<menu />
If I uncheck "separate..." the xml are correctly created, but just one file.

Try doing an update before running it and see what happens.
Hello,
Thanks for putting in all the hard work on the database and extra tools. I have downloaded HL and I was snooping around looking for a feature but i did not find what i was looking for.
It would be great if you could create different xml files based on the master list of games. Maybe create a new list called "Top 10" and in doing so this would create a new Top10.xml file in the same folder as the master "mame.xml" fild. Then while selecting the "top 10" list you could to see a list on the left of all the games for a specific emu and add them to the right. Once done just hit a button to generate that list and the proper xml is filled into the new xml file.
I post this because I was suprised that I could not find that feature in your software. So either it is in fact there and i did not see it or nobody else thinks like me.
very new to mame and I am impressed with the Hyperspin FE. Great work to all of you involved.
Lashek
09-17-2009, 02:31 AM
When it comes to Top 10, it's very tough to determine an actual "top 10" to go on. Since HyperSpin doesn't keep track of how many times a game is played by everyone, there is no "real statistics" to go on, and if you do a google search on the Top 10 games for any system, every list returned is different (with a few games being the same on some lists).
For this, I would recommend using Hyperion (http://hyperion.xeraweb.com) which is what HyperList is based upon and uses as it's backend. What you want is definitely doable from Hyperion, but the functionality never made it in to HyperList (atleast, in the public release, it will be included in the next release... which is to be announced when it's ready).

The next release of HyperList, per Lashek will be announced when it is ready, which will hopefully correspond roughly to when the new HS is ready. Somewhere or another he mentioned pulling it.
Lashek
01-31-2010, 04:46 PM
Due to complete system changes to support the next version of HS, I pulled the current public version because it will not work when the new HS is released.
Rather then allow more people to use a version that will not fully work, I pulled it in anticipation of the next release.
Like the original release, I plan to open up HyperList online, followed by releasing the HyperList PC Program. This is due to setbacks and other things in my everyday life which has prevented me from having HyperList with the next official installer package.
I will, however, have a somewhat functional version of the new HyperList Online with reduced functionality until I release the new HL PC application (Since they will work hand-in-hand, not all features will be active such as custom list sharing, etc).

Hey guys,
I just set-up a dedicated rig for emulaton using HyperSpin (have had it on a laptop for awhile), and when I went to DL HyperList this morning to sort my 4,400+ games, it had been taken down.
I then copied over my copy of HyperList from my laptop using a flash drive, but when I launch HL on my new PC, I get the following error:
"The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000135). Click OK to terminate the application."
I tried using version 0.8.0.0 of HS instead of HyperSpin 0.8.0.01, but that made no difference. I also tried using HyperLaunch 1.0.5 instead of the "REWRITE" version, but that didn't fix it either.
Any chance you guys can help me get HL running before the SuperBowl frenzy tonight? My HS list is a wreck without it!

HyperList requires .NET 2.0 Framework.
In future releases, I will be virtualizing the required libraries into the executable so that it will work on all pc's (including those that don't have the .NET framework).

Due to the upcoming release of the next version of HyperSpin, the download link for HyperList has been disabled and is no-longer available. There have been XML changes for the next version that HyperList does not currently support and it will soon nolonger work at all beyond Dir2XML.
It is no-longer supported by myself until the release of the next version. If someone else wishes to toss up a download link, that is on them.

Currently no ETA at this moment in time. Current work is focused on improving and rewriting HyperList Online.
Hey I just found out about your hyperlist dat files. I believe that you are trying to get one good rom for each game NTSC(USA) first than PAL(Europe) if there wasn't a USA release.
I researched the atari consoles and this is what I got compared to the dats.
The 2600 release has 355. It should be around 500.
The 5200 has 73. It should be 70. (removing protos and homebrew)(adding 1 game)
The only 7800 difference is the PAL Baseball, I couldn't find any info on this game anywhere.
And the LYNX is missing 11 games.
I don't know what you guys use to make dats. But I would like to help if this is right.

As for Atari 2600, there is no real no-intro dat that exists on it (cartridge consoles we only use no-intro), so I hand-made it by renaming GoodTools verified dumps to No-Intro format and removing those that shouldn't be included (hacks, proto's, unverifieds, etc) as per HS listings. It is very possible I could have missed some due to having an older GoodTools set as a starting point. I'd love to see what you have if it is in No-Intro format.
where do i download hyperlist? anyone have it ? email me please robsteph1702@gmail.com
There is no current available version. One is in development with major assistance by Aphexdash and should be available soon. For now, there is the hyperlist website at http://hyperlist.hyperspin-fe.com/ which is managed by a small team.
The extended features of the website will be available within the next few weeks, current target is weekend after this one (trying for release by 4/19/2010) coming up as it's my daughters b-day on Sunday. :)

This is the Atari 2600 list: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=2VQXBA5E
I don't have a way to make a dat or xml out of it so it is just a dir output. With the 2600 I went through all the European releases and replaced them with USA releases and added 200 or so missing ones. I also removed a couple homebrew, dupes and protos.
This section removed as it asked for roms
If this is something that would help you guys out, let me know and I will upload the changes to the other atari systems.
Edit: I just read that you used Goodtools as a base. I actually went to a couple of different atari databases around the net and compiled a pretty accurate list of games.... I hope ;)
2cd Edit: I did some more research and those pal games are clones.

Desperate for a way to rebuild XML files from roms or PNG files. Any ideas?

I need more then just names though, I need CRC, SHA1, Filesize, and everything else that would be in a dat for it to be usable due to being completely custom. I would also need a way to verify that the roms are "verified" dumps, and not simply regular renames (GoodTools identifies them with a [!] if I remember correctly, it's been a year since I made the list).
There are a couple of roms I could not find. If anyone can help out I would appreciate it.
Asking for ROM's is not allowed in any form.

Any idea from what sources and which ones were from where? We're more then happy to add them, but we have to ensure the validity of the data. Verified good dumps are those that have no edits at all to them, so the ROM's are in the original, unaltered state. Most of GoodTools roms (for example) are NOT verified and while they are the correct game, some are edited to work better, or have boot code added, etc. These are not verified games. :)

I notice the hyperion extra info for the xml is not working. I load the correct system name, give the paths, but my roms, even renamed exactly as the database, are not listed in the resulting xml. Only the names are listed but not the year, company, etc.

This tool is no longer available nor properly working. As a result, you will not be able to use this tool for your setup.
See page 8 for more information. :)
However, I am in the process of enhancing the HyperList Online API to allow 3rd party applications to tie in to HyperList's database and pull whatever information is necessary so that users are not limited to a single choice of software.
