My first computer was the awesome green screened apple 2 series, and my first console was the Atari 2600
The first game that I got was a full sized pinball machine at the age of 2 years old. The machine is a Gottlieb & Company Road Race (http://www.ipdb.org/machine.cgi?id=1971) circa 1969. I got the pinball machine in 1977 after my grandfathers restaurant burned down and all that was left standing was this machine with only broken playfield glass. I still own and play the machine today.
My first computerized system/console was the Atari 2600.

Lo those many years ago, would you believe I thought a bunch of newbie adults memory management? I swear, two dudes almost quit the course on the spot and one started to cry! This was an offsite course, one guy lived 2000 miles away and he wanted to go home! (it was a full IT course: DOS, memory mgmt, Windows 3.11 (shuddup!), ms office, novell, training the trainer course, etc. - 2 months straight, then went back a year later to assist in teaching it).
Sorry for the off topic, still have nightmares...

My very first console was a Fairchild Channel F.
(Here in germany sold under the name "Saba Videoplay")
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fairchild_Channel_F
My best friend & me bought nearly anything that came up after that.
Philips G7000, Atari VCS, Intellivision, Vectrex, Coleco, Sinclair ZX 81, VC 20, C 64,
several Amigas and then we stopped.
Never touched N64, PS 1, PS 2, Xbox,
We both got 386 instead and i am still on PC while he is gone a Mac-freak. :)
Portable stuff: Gameboy & Atari Lynx (great little thing)
Today i am just on PC and collecting pinball machines (18 in my basement) :stupid:

Why is it that everyone I know that has bought a pinball never just has one, its like dominos with you guys, makes me scared to buy one in fear that I might get addicted like you and buy like 20 machines.
Ego-X

Well I would imagine if you can fit 18 in your basement you can easily afford it :D

First Videogame was an Atari Stunt Cycle Dedicated Unit.
First Console was an Atari VCS - (To this day I still can't bring myself to call it a 2600)
First Handheld was the Milton Bradley Microvision System
First Computer was C-64
And most most recently on the 'firsts' list, my first pinball machine - a Bally Attack From Mars.
Personally, I really have a hard time suggesting people buy pinball machines unless they know they like them already. There are just too many lousy tables out there, and if you are not inclined to do maintenance, you will almost certainly regret the purchase. I love mine, and just hope that I eventually live somewhere with more space so I can expand the colection.

Ahhhh, a Commodore Amiga, my favorite computer of all time!!! (and also way ahead of its time when it was released)
First console was the Atari VCS (2600), then ColecoVision.
I then moved on to my first computer, the Commodore 64 (tape drive for the win, 300 baud modems ruled!), then a Commodore Amiga 500, and then the Commodore Amiga 1200.
Then I moved to the PC and life has been hell ever since!!!!!

Back in 1980 I got my first computer - the Tandy TRS80 model 1 (4k of Ram and Tiny Basic)
Crap as it was, it changed my life, hobbies and careerwise.
I still have it, slightly upgraded since then to 32k and level 2 basic, but it's in a cupboard behind my pride and joy (A Twilight Zone pinball machine) so I can't get to it. (Not without some major moving of stuff around the room, I'm pretty sure there is quite a bit of Scaletrix in that cupboard too.... What else did I put in there...).

Allister,
If you had a C64 with a 300baud modem like I did, I'd bet you were a Q-Link subscriber? I don't want to hijack this thread, but it's rare to come across fellow Q-Linkers these days. When people point with pride to the fact that they were online way back in '93 "at the beginning of it all", I just laugh...

Vic 20 was my first but the love of my life was my Commodore 64...
you could cook with it....bake with it....telecommunicate with it.....commodore 64
I worked an entire summer back in '83 washing dishes in a hotel to buy a colecovision with turbo and the wheel.......that was my first dedicated console system.
The first video game I ever played was on a Commodore PET when I was about 8 or 9....it was a car dodge type game.....where you go around the maze and the other car goes in the opposite direction and you try not to meet head-on.....circa 1979....
:)
never had a handheld system but there were Mattel football and baseball games out when I was a kid with little blips that represented the players and a similar sized blip that was the ball, puck, football etc......and those little mini versions of frogger and pac-man shaped like arcade cabs and I remember the video game watches...hee hee hee...
