X-Arcade Config. Help

I have a dual X-Arcade stick and am running into some issues with some emulators because of keyboard and button configs. As the X-Arcade is programmable, I was wondering if anyone could recommend a good set of keys to program into it that most Emulators do not use? I know a lot of times the "p" key is pause but I was just figuring on starting at A and working my way through the alphabet. Seems to me that most emulators use the 1-0 keys or f keys for menus or commands, I think I would want to avoid using them.
