Well... Here is my cabinet in progress... I have chosen Metal Gear and Splinter Cell for the theme...Why you ask?? IF i need to answer that...lol... Two of my favorite games of all time... All the artwork is custom, some from the guys over at deviantart and some from me... Started with Mameroom plans UAII and did all the work myself...Son of a carpenter I am, but woodworker I am not... LOL... I am still waiting on he funds to order the control panel, which will also have custom artwork on it... So check out this thread and enjoy... I started with Maximus Arcade, until I found Hyperspin :-), now I will never look back... Comments crits welcome..

Later all.. OH...I am copying and pasting the code from another thread at BYOAC, I dont feel like typing it all in again. :-)

A couple images from the beginning

Started priming and painting...

Primed and painted ...I redid the drawer...THe plans called for it to be INSIDE, and I wanted to dress it up a little...

http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n195/EricCamper/Mame%20Project/DSCN0718.jpg

Due to the nature of this project, being not rally arcade based...lol... I am applying the side artwork onto 3/16" Gatorboard and attaching it to the sides. I may use some sort of molding to cover up the edges, but the artwork is not mine and if I ever sell it, I want to keep it...

http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n195/EricCamper/Mame%20Project/DSCN0720.jpg

Here is a little update... Got the artwork printed and mounted on the foamcore... Cut and centered it up and it is ready for mounting on the Cab...Check it out...

All the artwork is from deviantart. All the artists over there are awesome and I emailed every single one of them and got permission... So hats off to the Original artists...

I did the layout in PS... Mounted them on Black Gator board, so I can exchange them if I want... Who knows... I will probably never do it...But oh well..

http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n195/EricCamper/Mame%20Project/DSCN0814.jpg

Just a little cutting

http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n195/EricCamper/Mame%20Project/DSCN0821.jpg

Here it is on the Cab, but I still need to cut out the excess a little more...

http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n195/EricCamper/Mame%20Project/DSCN0824.jpg

CUt and ready for gluing or whatever I decide...lol

NHL Finals in the background

Here is the Metal Gear Side... Not trimmed yet...

http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n195/EricCamper/Mame%20Project/DSCN0886.jpg

Custom Chuck Norris poster...I sell these BTW. :-)

http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n195/EricCamper/Mame%20Project/DSCN0887.jpg

So, it is coming together... Still deciding on screen and etc... I sell these Chuck Norris posters for $25.00 each... or cheaper for smaller sizes.... If I sell like 40 of them...I can get the Controls. :-) End shameless plug. :-)

I like the shape of the cabinet and the artwork is nice and clean. Good work man. I think the controls for the joysticks and buttons are pretty reasonable at Happs. I don't recall them costing too much. The spinners and a roller ball can add up though.

My only advice: bigger monitor - I hope you're not planning on using that vhs/tv deck ;)

and when you said 'ordering my cp' I think I fall in with most of the byoac crowd when I say to build your own - why build everything from scratch then put an x-arcade on it? It's like 95% done and then giving up :P

groovygamegear.com has about the cheapest buttons / joys as anywhere else - and they're always in stock. I was gonna order from lizardlick but they're always putting orders on hold.

I bought my buttons, joysticks, trim and monitor bezel from www.happcontrols.com. I got lucky and one of their warehouses is within 15 minutes of where I work. I didn't have to pay shipping, so it was great to place the order and go pick t up during lunch. Building the control panel from scratch is part of the fun/challenge.

8x2 (player 1&2) @ 4.24/each w/ cherry and rgbdrive
+
4x2 (player 3&4) @ 4.24 each
+
4x1 (start buttons) @ 1.40 each
+

gives you all the buttons you need

4x1 ( 8way joysticks) @ 8.50 ea (happ compo.)

1x1 (4way joystick) @ 22.50 ea (omni-stick)

1x1 (trackball) @ $65 ea (120 for led)

1x1 spinner @ 70-130
-----
interfaces:

optiwiz: $15
ledwiz : $45
gp-wiz 40 x2: $38

======

that's gonna run you about $550. But I'm telling you that's for all the primo stuff. You could definately do it cheaper. Still 1/2 of the 'standard' you could order for I'm sure.

I love metal gear I did the NES themes for it. It is my favorite series besides dragon warrior. Man that is so kool . I can feel the love that went into putting that Cab Together. After I am done with the 3D box art hit me up I have been really thinking about doing a complete Metal Theme section. All the metal gears in one. Thank you for sharing that is just so F*&$*ing kool.

With all those buttons and stuff... What about wiring and the ipac..etc.. etc.. Man this would really save me some dough.

Does anyone have any plans for a panel?

Oh....Does the GP Wiz replace the ipac4

Oh....Does the GP Wiz replace the ipac4
They can be used for the same purpose. The ipac 4 has enough inputs for a complete 4 player layout. The gp wiz has fewer inputs.

here's some panel layouts: just individually, but you'll get your buttons in the right place at least:

http://www.slagcoin.com/joystick/layout.html

actually the whole thing's a good read.
