Hi,
Is there a way I can turn off the "blue" warning/legal notice ROM screen using mame ?
I'm not sure if it's because I'm using mameui32.exe, but i've seen other videos of cabs using HS without them showing up.
FYI, I'm not using that "direct to ROM path" option since it does not work for me. Again, I'm not sure if these tid bits of info will help anyone understand ONE of my issues.
thanks!
D

You have to compile mame from the source and remove those screens. Check byoac for the easy mame compilier and source diffs to enable hi score and remove nags

i made a tutorial to compile mame plus (my preferred version of mame since it supports pixel smoothing). It works with the newest version. It takes 15-30 minutes for a newbie to compile mame yourself!

Please do not link to altered mame versions here. Thanks.

Please don't distribute copies of altered MAME binaries here - it's a violation of their License Agreement (distribution - not creation). The diffs are readily available to those who want them.

I just went with good old Mr Do's website
http://mrdo.mameworld.info/compile.html
just drop the diff in when specified

Thanks to all for the inputs. I see that I'm going to be doing a few extra steps for compiling mameui. Any advantages of sticking with mameui32.exe vs mame.exe? I'm currently running mameui32 w/hs (coming from gameex) and If going to change anything, it has to be during my rebuild of my mame machine (which is now)
Thanks again.

no sense in using a frontend for mame when you are using HS, so I would recommend staying with commandline mame. :)
I want to do this also..... I have no idea how to recompile mame.... I have never used command line mame. "DOH!"

Yer get the command line MAME and follow the Mr Do's guide .
I am not the best at this at most times but I followed that guide and hey presto - no nags (well apart from the mrs that is)

Dude thanks That is totally cool . I went ahead and compiled my first build and used that mame 64 compiler with the .diff that I wanted. It works great. I just wanted to say thank you. I've been using hyperspin for about 6 months and I should have done this along time ago. I just got caught up with all my other work that I never messed with mame to much. Sweet. I am feel pretty good right about now.
uuugh.... Something is wrong with the tutorials! lol
After 2 straight days of messing with compiling, I've decided to stick with mameuifx. It allows you to remove nag and save high scores within the options menu.

Remove the nag screen? the one that makes you type ok or move the joy left and right? I don't see that option in Mameuifx. Can you tell me where it is at?

ACE - send me a PM (you don't seem to be able to accept them?), probably can sort you out a compile.

Skip Game info is not the same as Skip Disclaimer.
Skipgameinfo is a switch that can be toggled in all versions of mame. Skip disclaimer used to be available.
Compiling your own removes the "disclaimer" eg. press left or right to agree if you own the rom etc..... Mame otherwise only prompts you once to do that per game launched.
The other messages compiling removes are the "this game does not work properly" and "this game has wrong colors" and "cocktail mode not supported".
My verbage may be slightly off bu you guys get the idea right?

yes, that's right.
Compiling your own means you can get rid of all the messages. This makes the cabinet seem more authentic, however depending on your spec a few games will take a few moments to load in which time a blank screen will just be displayed.
offtopic - anyone thought of putting an ssd or 2 in raid, into their cabs to dramitcally speed up the boot and rom loading times?

This was linked before, but it's still great.
Anyway, instead of the nag screens, technically you could modify it to show an image, or (if it also removes the loading screen), modify it to include JUST the loading screen so you know what's going on.
