@ gargoyle: I believe what we are seeing there is what's known as "attract mode"

I've seen the rgb leds set like that and when an emulator is launched they take the original color of the controller - pretty lick IMO to have the same corresponding colors as the SNES buttons had.

it's a phase. had mine on for a few weeks... now only the joy knobs light up.. oh, and the trackball, but no buttons. my friends kept asking me if it was an arcade or Christmas tree. maybe his friends dig it?

Keep the system theme but use the SNES wheel set, will make them look way better; they are available on the FTP.

BTW, nice gameroom I was looking at your vid and noticed when you launched Hyperspin, you reached out to the right and I heard what sounded like a "double click". Does your trackball not work at a mouse? Maybe you don't have mouse buttons on that CP?.

H4CK3R
06-28-2009, 06:24 PM
I do... its on the spinner... but its a pain in the ass to double click it.. keeps moving left to right, ect.

Pretty cool.. It's funny I also moved into a new house about 3-4 weeks ago. I have been working on setting up my game room, which is far from finished. As a sneak peak before making a new thread, here you can see my row of some of the games : MAME 24.8'' CRT/ Dedicated machines (All 19'' CRT's): Bubble Bobble (in a williams cabinet , Galaga 88' (original atari cabinet), Gun Smoke (inside taito cabinet), Dig Dug (original atari cabinet), 1943 (waiting on various artwork in a dynamo cabinet), Pengo(original Sega cabinet), Circus Charlie (original Konami/Centuri cabinet).

http://img33.imageshack.us/img33/8113/dsc00335s.jpg
The biggest challenge was getting the games down the stairs and into the basement! Maybe I'll start a new thread , when I begin to work on it a little more.

how's the art on your Circus Charlie cab?

maybe time to scan that badboy and update the current theme (http://www.hyperspin-fe.com/forum/downloads.php?do=file&id=200)?

H4CK3R

Its all Preference, to be honest, i play more on the Stand up arcade then the 50 inch, only because I cant get the kids off the 50 inch...

I know when I throw parties, I get more attention from the Hyperspin set up, then the classic stand up.. But more people play the stand up arcade. I guess when they learn the price of the Hyperspin set up, they are afraid to touch it... LOL

Its a tournament Brunswick. Another thing i thought that buy getting it I would play more often, but don't. Same goes with the Jacuzzi. Now wifes talking about a pool... LOL

I have no regrets, and would do it all again, The hyperspin set up is special to me, even tho I had More help then hands on with it, its allowed me to meet some very talented and gifted people, who I hope to remain friends with for years to come. I am going to start to design some themes, and hopefully I become good enough at it, that ones becomes official. That way a part of me is some small way, will be apart of everyone else.

I can only imagine what some game designers must feel when they create a must have game. Knowing that they have enriched someones else's life.

It's funny you should mention that.. It's a tough game to find side art for. My side art needed some love and someone was kind enough on the KLOV forums to scan it for me:

https://bboldt3.homeserver.com/ebayitems/

I still need that sideart cleaned up before I'm going to apply it to my cabinet.

Personally as an owner of the dedicated cabinet, I feel that the art in hyperspin for that game is perfect and doesn't need to be changed or updated.

New Cab to the Mix!!!

What I thought was going to be a brand new Dragons Lair II ( in the Box ), turned into a a slightly used DLII, Only 120 games played. Turns out before it was shipped to my friend as a gift, someone played it a few times...

Was sitting in friends garage for the past 19 years, he was involved in a car accident, paralyzed and never got around to playing it, got the call from him, that if i wanted it, come pick it up.

This thing is in MINT condition, and I could not pass up the price... FREE...

Only had to drive to Gilroy Ca, but who's complaining.

Here are some pics, the only thing I could find wrong with it, is one burnt out bulb, on the the buttons, trust me that will be fixed before I change underwear... LOL

Been watching your vids on YouTube and was inspired about a year ago I think to do something similar to your 50" and standing control panel type system.

So firstly wanted to say thanks so much for sharing all that you have, letting us into your home basically :)

I did have a couple questions if you have the time to answer.

1. What type of control panel is your quad controller sitting on? Is it one of the one's for sale at mameroom.com or just a custom one? Are you able to take a shot or two of it please?

2. What settings (resolution etc) do you use for the older sprite games? Because I find on my 50" plasma all sprite games look terrible compared to say a 20" monitor like I'm typing on now. Is this why you have the standard cabinet to play the old games on?

I agree with you about people creating such great things that they enrich others lives. Mate, you've pretty much done that for me and my wife to be. We watch your videos over and over again. She does keep questioning me though, if I will actually stop at the mounted tv and control panel set-up though, I think she's worried I'll get addicted... lol!

The Control Panel itself was built buy Scott. The stand, is something i built. So that it would house the speakers, CPU, lights, usb Joysticks, ect. I will take pictures, but mind you, its only spraypainted atm, till I can afford to throw a design on there.

The 50 inch LCD is a 1080p so that when i play PC games, I can do it in 3D if I choose, it also doubles for another ps3 area for us to play as a team. Tho when its hooked to the PC, it's set at 720P, or as a resolution of 1360 x 768. I have to deal with boarders on most Mame games, but over all I am very pleased with the out come..

Ill take pictures of the stand, and post up soon.

Haha nice one mate!!

I was tossing up whether to build something myself for the quad controller to sit on or to buy one of the control panel stands from mameroom.com.

Seeing though it's all for wifey, I'll ask her :P

You know what's cool? We both got a bit starstruck when we actually saw tonight that you'd replied! I guess you're a bit of a legend in these woods! :)

Photo's

Here you can see the tray, closed, so that you can play while standing. Under nether the keyboard is a laptop cooler tray, I'm weird, I like my keyboards at a 30 to 45 degree angle.

http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s64/eqdruid/PIC_0271.jpg

Here's a view from the side with tray open. Originally I was going to place glass shelves where the speakers are, to hold games, extra controllers, nic nac's ect... But once I had it in place, it was a perfect fit for the speakers. The base speaker is inside the stand itself, as are all the wires, hidden. The cord you see is the power and the speaker wire for my E3 gaming chair. ( I got a discount code if you want to buy it... free shipping plus 25 bucks off. )

I have the PC sitting out just a bit so that I can use the USB connection at the top of the PC, and to turn it on and off.

http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s64/eqdruid/PIC_0261.jpg

Just a photo from the other side. Notice the LED lights on top of the speaker area, they can change colors slowly, or stay a constant color. Hell I might even be able to plug them into the LED-Wiz.. I think it would work actually. Those are really cheap at Ikia ( wife makes me go.... so I grab a few lights and food...)

http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s64/eqdruid/PIC_0268.jpg

Hope that helps you all.. The boards extending from the back of the cab to the wall is to keep the pets from going behind there. I might actually complete the whole box, and use the back of the cab as a stand for the PS3, and stuff....

Ill take some more pictures tonight with the lights down low. Looks like a beast... hehe

If you have any other questions feel free to ask.

I like it!! Such a good job!

I was thinking of using my horizontal media centre case my PC is in for my Mame system and maybe have it similar to where your keyboard currently is. It's an Antec Fusion with the little LCD screen thing, was thinking (dreaming) of possibly getting it to display the current game or some other Mame related info. Haven't really looked into it much though, may not be possible.

It all comes down to whether we buy a home soon or not. If not, I can't wall mount a TV so would have to make my first project a cabinet.

Thanks again for the pics, info and inspiration. Seems like a nice community on these forums :)

P.S. I like your dog in the pics!

unfortunately I had only 1066 ram, so I could only OC it to 4.2.... Ordering new ram, 1600 so I can get 4.2 +. Might switch out the 2 TB I have the OS on with a 250 SSD card so I can get max performance out of it.

Only have 3 spots left for Hard drives, but Im sure I can hide a SSD anywhere...

So after all said and done, will have a 24.250 TB system OC to at least 4.2, maybe 4.6.

If you don't mind me asking, why do you want to overclock your CPU for mame? An Intel i7 stock can run circles around whatever mame can throw at it, heck an i5 can.

At first I was thinking you're running other emulators that will benefit from this but every other emulator is really just video card dependent, so an overclocked cpu wouldn't benefit say ePSXe, PCSX2 or PC games.

I was just wondering, why shorten the processor's life significantly with no real world gain?

bLAZER
01-23-2011, 04:16 PM
That's not correct, most of the emulation is done with CPU for all emulators. Sure, the systems that use 3D graphics can use the video card to draw polygons and effects etc. but the CPU, sound etc. emulation is done with the CPU. I.e. the faster processor the better.

H4CK3R

Ps2/wii. PC games too. Media server. And ask why over clock, I ask why not.... Shorten the lifespan.... Pc's in my house don't sit for longer then 1 to 2 years max....

Sold the original pc I built this cab with for 900.... I'll end up selling this set up in a year, two max...

What board did you get for that system? Also how are you connecting all the 9 HDDs, I suppose you're using SATA port multipliers right?

I really like the Antec 1200, I was considering buying one for my cab, but I might get a pretty good deal on a DF-85 so I'll probably get that one instead. It's also 2 extra bays for HDD :)

New Build... Touch Screen Hyperspin...

Adding a tribal stainless steal or aluminum design to encase everything.

Also using two Logitect wireless controllers to play the old school games.

Size is about 4 foot by 2.5... and only 3.5 inches deep.

Sounds ALOT better in person, 250 watts of power!!

Well seems my Control Panel was just to sexy for its base... I could hear it singing while i slept at night... Still cant get that tune out of my head...

So to make things even a little I called in a favor, from my friend Ridic.

We talked for about an hour, and after two days of going back and forth, he sent me out what I needed to keep peace around the house.

I now introduce, a sexy beast in its own right... The CP stand...

So if your looking for some art for your cab, or for your wall, hit this man up, professional, timely, and a gamer.. Takes one to know one. I'm sure he will hit a home run with your next project too.

Well, in order to install the Solar Panels I had to sacrafice a few of my pins.

I was a little upset, but with the saving on our electrical bill, it was worth it, and turned out to be a blessing in disguise..

Friend of mine had a few items in storage, that didnt have space for, and said If I made the trip to pick them up, I could keep them, seeing as I now had the space for extra toys, I jumped on it.

So I went to Long Beach, and spent about 6 hours of digging, and this is what I came home with...

Works great with 8 oz of Coca Cola, or canned beer!!!

A few pins... All in working order tho I need to replace some of the rubber as it didn't do so well..

And a Real jukebox that plays 45's.

Not really Hyperspin update, but will be... New shower with a PS3 hooked into it, and soon a Computer hooked into it with waterproof controller.

This shower does everything, TV, phone, Spa, Jacuzzi, PS3, Radio, ect, ect..

Why would you want a ps3 in your shower, let alone a phone or a TV? You are supposed to be getting clean, not watching tv while standing up, and water is pouring all over you. Have you ever tried talking on a phone while all the noise from the shower is going on, doesn't work very well. If this was a tub, I could understand more.

Besides those, the shower looks fun to use.

I'm afraid to ask where the controller is...:bootyshake:

Is that like one big unit that you just slide into a spot in your bathroom and connect the water and power? There are no tiles, so it looks prefab.

Had a great time visiting you and the crew in LV! You're game room, theater, back yard, ah hell whole house totally kicks A$$! I'm just a bit disappointed there were no Fire Breathers while I was there! ;-) Here's a few pics I snapped with my crappy phone:

I love this artwork and the shaker motor makes a huge difference in the virtual pin experience!
