Ok I am out of time, have to go to work, so I will let you guys chew on this and I will finish the post tonight, I have a lot more stuff to add!Well I have finally decided to make a new cabinet, this time a bartop based on mamerooms design. I am going to call it the Timewarp Touch since my big one is called timewarp.
Here Is a picture from Dream Authentics to give you an idea of what these look like:
http://www.dreamauthentics.com/katana_gallery/images/image017.jpg
Scott from NorthCoast Customs (Formally Mameroom) has been extremely helpful with the design, here is the first draft:
http://www.hyperspin-fe.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=2862&d=1248287201
I am waiting on another draft because I needed to add 1 more pinball button to each side. Also that button at the top of the control panel is for a turbo twist spinner.
The reason why I added the touch to the name is because i am placing a 19" glass touch screen monitor, just like the casinos! I found a new one on ebay for $160+$30 shipping.
LA1910RTC 19" Open-Frame LCD – Capacitive Touch (http://www.planarembedded.com/kiosk-digital-signage/indoor-brightness/la1910rtc/)

For the sound I wanted to get away from the computer speaker 2.1 setup that I have used in the past because I wanted the sub to be internal, and I really dont want a mess of wires outside the box. So after searching the DIY forums, it seems like these pocket amplifiers work extremely well. I'll see when it gets here but here is the amp:
http://www.kcheungshop.com/yourschoices/pics/c_motor_hi-fi_mplifier_300w_02.jpg
http://www.kcheungshop.com/yourschoices/pics/c_motor_hi-fi_mplifier_300w_03.jpg
As you can see this thing is tiny but it is a true 2.1 channel amplifier, I am sure the wattage is way wrong but you dont need that much anyway. I will be cutting a small notch in the back panel so that I can mount inside the cabinet yet still access the controls from the rear. I have a 12 volt adapter so I will run off of AC so I dont have to stress my power supply with it. Ebay Price $21.38 +$5 shipping
As far as speakers I am going to use car stereo speakers, they have always worked great in the past and are easy to mount. To start with I will be using two 4" Polk Audio DB401 2 Way Speakers:
Polk Audio DB401 Specs (http://www.polkaudio.com/caraudio/products/products/speakers-systems/db401/)
http://www.hyperspin-fe.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=2863&stc=1&d=1248288547
These will be mounted on the sides of the cabinet as shown in the schematics. Price $57 on ebay
For the subwoofer I did some research and found a small open air low profile 6.5" sub made by kicker. This is important because I cant really build a sub enclosure into a cabinet this small. It is the Kicker CVT65:
Kicker Comp VT Series Specs (http://www.kicker.com/comp_vt)
http://www.hyperspin-fe.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=2864&stc=1&d=1248289032
The sub will be mounted to the back of the cab behind the same time of cutout shown on the sides of the cabinet. Price $57.50 on Ebay
On the control panel you can see the space for two joysticks and I am using two ultimarc 360's because of there versatility and I will finally be able to play (Correctly) modern consoles on my cab ie Dreamcast, Playstation, and of course games that need analog support in mame.
Ultrastik 360 Specs (http://www.ultimarc.com/ultrastik_info.html)
http://www.hyperspin-fe.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=2865&stc=1&d=1248289542
Picked this up directly from Ultimarc for $132
For the Buttons I intend to use the Novagems from GroovyGameGear. I havent ordered these yet because I would like to have the 8 panel buttons clear with RGB lighting and their micro leaf switches. They are not on the site in that configuration so I need to talk to randy to see what we can do. The front admin buttons will be credit and start on the right and exit, enter, pause on the left. I will be using orange blue and red nova gems for these. And the pinball buttons will be orange and blue novagems. Also from groovegamegear i will be using a turbotwist 2 spinner, novamatrix marquee light, led-wiz lighting controller, and a KeyWiz40 keyboard encoder (Yes I know that the u360 support this but I want to use a standalone encoder for ease of use and re programming.

that touch screen is SUPER cheap (inexpensive). You'll definitely have to let us know if it cheap (quality) or not. I'm assuming it doesn't support multi touch?
what touch features will you be putting on it? jukebox, etc... I'm really intrigued by the whole touch stuff.
I recently pulled my large 2 player cabinet apart, and I am building something similar in size and shape to that picture. The touch screen sounds like a very cool addition. I'm curious to see how that works out for you. Good luck!

this is my second cab with this type of monitor. the first one used a 17" and the older mameroom bartop style. its amazing and the one i bought is still selling on the net for about $600 and its replacement is over 1000 but decased touchscreens usually go for cheap on ebay and mine is brand new. the touchscreen is perfect for pc casino games, popcap type games, ultrastar (a singstar karaoke clone for pc), and espeecially jukebox.
i am in the process of completely upgrading the 17" touch cab for my friend, and i came across this jukebox software by zenpoint. that was the last straw for me. im also planning to get a booth at next years ca extreme show and i want the bartop for demonstration purposes. im on my cell rright now but i will finish the first post with the build details.

is that the sunlight readable sharp commercial touchscreens?

I am the one Circo is helping with on the bartop. We built it about 2 years ago. I still remember Circo telling me we should put a touchscreen in it. He found a cheap one on ebay, and asked what I thought. At first I was skeptical because of the extra cost. Looking back, I am glad I pulled the trigger. It changes what you can do with the machine and the added expense is well worth it.
Examples: Solitare is actually fun. Same with Mahjong. Wife loves Bejeweled. Jukeboxes play like you are in a bar, and some of the Casino games are the actual real video slots you would see in a casino. (Not the same rush as pumping quarters into a slot, but still fun.)
Bottom line, I like my bartop much more than my "regular" Mame cab.

Has anyone seen the dual layer touch screens? Its really hard to explain but when I was in Vegas I saw the coolest screens. Its like theres layers. The one the pops in my mind is the Indiana Jones slot , the new one with the spinning wheel above it. Anyways sometimes when you get a good roll , flames and stuff would appear on the closer layer on the screen, most of the action is on the back layer, and everything looks so 3D when they do this. If I could see HS in action on one of these , that would be insane. I'll see if I can research how they did it.
Edit: I think I found a vid, its hard to tell but like the flames on the torches and some of the other grahics are like on a screen thats in front of another screen.
Edit2: I found out its called REELDepth, really cool stuff:

Well some progress has been made, I got the monitor in (and it looks beautiful) i am charging my camera battery so I can start taking pictures tomorrow. looks like I will be able to power the amplifier off of the power supply, and inital test are fairly loud and clean sound. Of course it should sound alot better in the cabinet. U360 joysticks arrived, and the computer is here.
Here are the computer specs:
AMD Phenom II X2 550 Black Edition Callisto 3.1GHz Socket AM3 80W Dual-Core Processor - Newegg ($79.99)
ASRock A780GMH/128M AM2+/AM3 AMD 780G HDMI Micro ATX AMD Motherboard - Newegg ($69.99)
MSI N9600GT-MD1G GeForce 9600 GT 1GB 256-bit GDDR3 - Newegg ($79.99)
2GB DDR2 PC 1066 Memory - On Hand (Free)
2 X Seagate Barracuda LP ST31500541AS 1.5TB 5900 RPM SATA - Newegg 114.99ea
I went with the phenom 2 in this case because bang for the $$ I was just getting more raw horsepower than from intel. THe barracudas were decided upon because of lower power requrements and heat, plus 3TB in a bartop, it just had to be done :D
Since it is touchscreen, i dont really have to worry about a mouse, but a keyboard is a necessity for some of the pc games, like the casino games require you to type in name and $$ amounts. But otherwise they are perfect for a touchscreen cabinet. So I decided to scour ebay and find a keyboard that would ge a good fit for a bartop cab. All I knew was that it had to be small and here is what i decided on:
http://i14.ebayimg.com/01/i/001/3a/ea/1f7f_12.JPG
Mini 83 Keys Wireless Bluetooth Keyboard (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220402737253&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT) - Ebay ($20.99 + $6.95 shipping)
Gamepad size wireless keyboard, perfect!
Pretty much finalized things with North Coast Customs and the cabinet. Called and spoke with Scott (very helpful) and he is actually modifying the sides, control panel, and back of the cabinet all for the same $20 that they charge to modify the control panel. Great deal in my eyes, and here is my rough version of the rear of the cab:

I am getting ready to build a full size arcade and was wanting to put in 2 car speakers as well as a subwoofer. Does anyone have a good site that discusses 1) best placement for speakers and subwoofer (how to enclose and mount sub) 2) best kind of speakers to use 3) how wire everything up.
Obviously Circo's post has helped tremendously, but was wanting a little more info for a full size cab and the differences for that. Didn't know if I'd need a bigger amp.
Any help would be great!

FWIW, I went with Monoprice's 5-1/4 Inches In-Wall / In-Ceiling Speaker (http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=108&cp_id=10837&cs_id=1083701&p_id=4102&seq=1&format=2)
http://images.monoprice.com/productlargeimages/41021.jpg
its real easy to mount in a cab, the bezel is paintable, and it sounds really good... and it was on sale for $25 for a pair...
to power them I went with the AudioSource AMP100 (http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?partnumber=302-601)
http://www.parts-express.com/images/item_standard/302-601_s.jpg
plenty of power, and it also is cheap...
overall, while I do have a sub I was planning to use, after listening/using my cab as is without the sub, I don't think I need to bother with a sub...
but your mileage may vary/experiment at at your own risk/etc...

Sounds good. Anyone else have advice on adding a sub to a full size cab. I plan on using my cab as a jukebox as well as for HS, so I want the kick of the bass.

not to drag Circo's cool cab thread even further off topic, but FWIW, now that I have actually built my cab, If I was going to do it over and include a sub this time, I would just build a 19" X 19" box in the bottom of the cab, cut out a big hole in the side of the cab and install a Dayton TIT400C-4 15" Titanic Mk III Subwoofer (http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=295-420) in said hole and drive said sub with Dayton SA240-B 240W Subwoofer Amplifier with Boost (http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=300-805)
the dayton stuff is a cheap Chinese version of Usher Audio, but its really good... even from a home theater point of view...
but if I really wanted to go all out, I would replace the Dayton stuff with a Rythmik Audio Servo Sub (http://www.rythmikaudio.com/DS1500ci.html) setup... I have 2 of their 15" Servo subs in my HT... its most excellent... if you like bass...

For my full size cab I used 6 1/2" Sony Xplode 3 way car speakers which I really liked because the woofers ore red plastic and the marquee light shines through them giving a red glow. I used a logitech THX 2.1 computer speaker setup with 400 watts and an 8" subwoofer. It has a volume remote that is mounted in the keyboard tray. It sounds FANTASTIC and was very convienient. The amp that I bought for the bartop is much smaller but it packs a punch so I am happy. But the Stand up arcade is crazy loud :)

Wow I havent touched this in over a year, really a shame. I am finally back to building my HyperSpin set up (thats right I dont even have a working cab at the moment) so I am going to pick this project back up again. Just replaced the motherboard and CPU.

I really want to play this thing (I have the itch again) so hopefully I will have more updates
