View Full Version : Software management of a cabinet?

Allo allo

Almost finished with my cabinet build I'm facing the issue of how to manage the software inside it - meaning once in a while I need to add a new table and do some DMD resizing/moving.

Optimally I would have a wireless keyboard or something - which I dont. And opening up the cabinet to plug in mouse and keyboard is a hassle.

So I tested a bit with remote desktop, but it starts a new session instead of taking over the existing one and is thus not optimal.

So the big question is then what do you do?

Thanks

/Thomas

I went with the wireless keyboard/easy access to a USB hub route.

I also have wireless keyboard and mouse. It saves a lot of taking apart. As stated above, a USB hub is nice. If you have a coin door, it's nice to put it by the coin door so you can open it and plug stuff in. Could also do this with USB mouse and keyboard. I was using USB mouse and keyboard but it got annoying after a while. No complaints with wireless. Might have a little keyboard delay but that's about it.

I have a wireless keyboard/mouse, the cheapest MS one I think. I have a usb extension cable going from the back of the cab where the computer is to up front where the coin door is just inside. I have a tiny usb stick I bought just for the cab. I was going to go wireless but its fine the way I have it I think.

Thomas, you can use remote desktop. What you need to do in order to log in to the same session is use the console log in. Go to start, then click on run, type
%SystemRoot%\system32\mstsc.exe /console Hit ok. This will launch the remote desktp login in console mode. You'll be able to see the same session. Hope this helps.

Another option if you want remote desktop under the same session is use TightVNC, as this runs as a separate service with a password of your choosing on a port you specify.

Thanks guys - seems wireless keyboard is the real longer term solution. Although I did manage to install TightVNC and it runs great for small/fast fixes. It even supported the 2 monitors - yay - but refresh rate is/was horrible (most likely wireless bandwidth that was crappy).
