View Full Version : Super Mario Bros WIP
hey guys,
just to let you know that i have started my first table build which will be super mario bros.
first off, i am halfway through a complete re-draw of the playfield and plastics using illustrator. i want to make sure the graphics are the highest possible quality.
my main purpose for this table is a FS version as i want to try and have it ready before my cab is finished. at least i can say i made one of the 200 or so tables in the cab :).
sorry, no pics at the moment. but i should have some in a few days as i get closer to completing the re-draw of the playfield. will keep you all updated!

This is fantastic 1up. Welcome aboard the table building band wagon. If you need any help along the way let me know and i'll do what ever i can for you.
:top:
thanks for the encouragement guys!
ok, here is the first pic of the playfield trace. ignore the ends of all the pipes, i didnt bother finishing the end off neatly as they will be covered by other images.
still heaps to do, and the top half red background still needs its white pattern added to it. but overall i think its starting to come along nicely.
BBB, initially i had the same problem of not having a high enough res playfield to trace. but i did collect a stack of individual close up images of the playfield over time. so i'm using those to trace the detail and then resizing/shaping back onto the playfield image i have.
if you or anyone else has a nice hi-res image of the backbox then let me know, i'm not really happy with the one i have.

i'm so glad someone's doing this table! good luck!
ok, just an update on how its all going. the playfield image has finally been completely re-traced. just to see how it looks in VP i opened up a new table and loaded it in (i havnt adjusted or moved anything from the default table, i just wanted to see for myself and show you guys how it looks loaded up.)
now that the playfield is done, i can finally start on the actual building of the table.
also, does anyone know for sure if the small number 3 light on the blue pipe on the right hand side is yellow? i,ve gone through all my images and cant find a clear pic of that light that shows its colour properly. from what i can gather from my pics, it seems to be yellow, but theres a posibillity it could be either orange or clear?
anyway heres my latest pic.

That looks superb!
I'll get some pictures of this game when I go to my brothers. He's got about 7 pins. I'll probably take 100 pictures from different angles. Some with the lights on and off.
Here's Super Mario Bros:

I'm sure he's fixed it by now. Hopefully all of the pins are working when I visit sometime next month.
Cheers. I look forward to playing your version.

that would be really cool if you could get some nice pics of this pin. especially a nice pic of the backglass and the apron image if possible. that would be really useful.:top:
havn't made as much progress as i'd like on this table as i've been flat out at work, and been working on my cab (will update that thread also soon). but the table is slowly coming along.
ignore the quality of the plastics, those are my reference images, i've re-done all those. i just havn't added them into the table yet.
most of the posts and rubbers have been added ( except for a few on the upper playfield.
ramps are still in their early stages, so they still have alot of work to be done on them.
so overall it is finally starting to take shape.

thats comming along nicely. are you going to do the double standup targets to simulate the targets getting hit. if you need any help, with building or scripting let me know, I'm more than happy to help out.
also I don't think the table has gi strings unless it's controlled by a solenoid. if not I figure out An easy method for simulating gi control, similar to what I used on tspp nm.
just pm me.
oh yea, did I ever send you the flasher textures?
looks great, can't wait for it

Yep keep up the great work!
table is now taking shape, now that i've had some time to work on it.
tonight i finished adding all the apron stickers.
also added the wire ramp and VUK which was a real pain but strangely satisfying when i finished building and scripting it. :)
the apron colour will be a bit different, i just left it like that for tonight.

nah, this pinball was a full sized table. the table your thinking of is (super mario bros mushroom world). the mushroom world table is the mini (2/3) sized cab.
Great work mate looks awesome.

Looks amazing. Can't wait.
i stopped working on the table for a while and started to learn blender so i could create some 3d objects that i needed for the table. well after a bit of a learning curve i've got the basics of it and now was able to make the castle and yellow pipe for the table, which is a good thing as i'll need to take images of the castle at different rotations to animate it later on to simulate the castle spinning around.
next on the list is to re-do all the light inserts. i'm not really happy with the quality of current insert images i've got and after seeing how player1's redrawn lights came out on his south park (whick look great) i'm going to give that a try next.
here's the current WIP pic

Looking good. My kids are anxiously awaiting this one.
been trying out a heap of different ways to get the light inserts looking nice, originally i spent a heap of time trying to create them in blender but i just couldnt get them to look how i wanted them to. so i ended up creating them between illustrator and photoshop.
i've done the 4 stage fading lights, now i'm going to play around with it and get them scripted in the table. also made the table a little darker, not a night or day version, more of an afternoon light setting :).
anyway, here's the off and full on screenshot images. i left the upper playfield as is for now so you can see the difference from the old to the new.

The original game has GI strings, but on this make of game they are controlled by a relay.
Hope that helps
edit - sorry
Backbox GI was relay controlled.
Other GI was live all the time.

Me too, last night before I went to bed at 2:00am, I checked and low and behold oooPlayer1ooo released Doctor Who. So got out of bed and went down to my game room and loaded it ASAP. Thank god I had all the artwork and Hyperin media setup already from 2 weeks ago so just had to drop the table in and set the DMD. I didn't end up going to bed till 4am so TGIF. Excellent table much like this one I am sure from the looks of it.
i'm actually working on it right now. i keep finding things to improve and tweak, it almost never ends :) just trying to make sure everything is right before release.

Lol if you keep going there is no end to the amount of tweaking you can do at one point you have to say to yourself it is done.
I had a play of this thing last night and it is great!
I have never played the original but after this I am a fan

that's why I always get testers, I let them tell me when it's done. H4CK3R is the best one cause he's brutally honest and he has access to play a lot of real tables
hey guys, check back in an hour or two and there might be a new toy to play with :proud:

Well I try and be realistic too, I know what can and can not be done, and given the time invested.
It's like baking a cake, too much flour, too much sugar, ect, ect...if its in the oven too long, you can ruin it.
I have a few minor adjustments i would do with it, but I think its 99% perfect, and will make a GREAT addition to anyones cab as it sits.
