View Full Version : Best Video Recording Software while inside Hyperspin?

What is the best software to use for making a recording type AVI of a program on your machine, kind of like what EmuMovies uses within MAME? I know a popular choice would be Fraps, and I tried it, but for some reason it will not run on my Cab, I tried it over and over. Hotkey does nothing at all. What else could I try that will work and show Hyperspin running? If possible I am looking for something which would record only the active window. Any suggestions?

My cab is a widescreen, so it distorts things in Hyperspin a little, not too much, I can live with it, but I want to record Hyperspin with it running at 1078 by 760 which would mean an empty window area if the recorder records the full screen. I could record with the external camera like I did on the Silverjuke vid i had put up (before Youtube turned off all the audio); but for showing the themes it would be easier I think as a recording movie from Fraps-like software.

I want to make a video to put up and show what I have been working on as a Emulator system addition for Hyperspin; it's not the normal type of emulation addition, very unique, so i would rather show it as I explain it, and have worked on a system theme with 21 subthemes. Once all is completed, I know I will use it, and want to offer it for anyone else that may want to try or use it also.

camtasia seems to work well for video. However, I can't seem to get audio to record no matter what the settings. Might depend on the sound card (I only have onboard audio). It will work with a patch cord from the headphones to the mic. It does take a powerful machine to not have the themes stutter and lag.

i second camtasia. It works well...have use it to record some HyperPin stuff. There is quite a bit of overhead running HS and recording so I agree you should have a pretty good machine.

Camtasia worked great, it created an avi like I wanted! Thanks

Unfortunately the file is over 4 GB though... what would be the best way or program to convert to a smaller avi or flv file so I could upload to llike youtube? Thanks

I use mediacoder .6 to transcode videos. .7 they added some nag features asking you to donate - which pauses your transcoding until you press 'donate' or 'later'

Perfect SophT!!! Went from over 4 GB to about 150 Megs. Trying an upload to Youtube now and will post a preview of what I have been working on right after. Is there another good place to host the video after Youtube inevitably dumps the audio from the file? :)

i like to use CamStudio for the recorder and XviD4PSP 5.0 to convert to FLV.. quick n easy to use with lots of configurations

as far as getting sound to work.. what i did is got a cable from speaker out which "T" it.... one to the speakers im listening to.. the other end into "Line In." Tell your video recording software to record from "Line In"

Works like a charm. Make sure you get a dual Stereo splitter.. not one channel per side.

another free FLV encoder that works well is "Riva FLV Encoder"... down side... no batch support.
