What do you reckon? When using Hyperspin as a front end to N64 PS1 and MAME, will 6 buttons suffice (with other two on front of control panel) or would you recommend putting all 8 next to each other?

Cheers,

I did 7 buttons, the top row is 3 and the bottom row is 4, This lets me play the Neo-Geo roms the way they were intended, and doesn't interfere with other mame games, As for N64 and the others, I find it just plain difficult to play with a joystick and buttons.

I also have always had 7 Buttons. Seems to work the Best! On most emulators, I use the 7'th button for Select and the upper Start button for Start. And the other 6 for the games themselves.

I went with 7 also. Once I actually get time to play on the thing :) I'm planning on getting 2 wired 360 controllers for the "advanced" console games. This way I can play them how they were designed since it's really hard to play some games with the joystick.

i use 6
if you want you can do what i do i have hacked all controllers from just about all consoles so they have the same plug and can be plugged in when i need them there is lots of resources on the web to do this.
there is only one way to play n64 games if you ask me and thats with the original controller all else just dosn't feel right even w/ 360 controllers

I use 8 , for optional 3 punches E.G SFIV
also helps for ps1 + ps2 emulation.

Future proof!
