looked at a 40 inch vizeo.measuring the screen from top to bottom,it might just fit removing the bezel and the speaker portion. How much time is involved in this? Also will there need to be something put between the screen and the wood that it sets in to cut down on shock to the display?
I am going to be picking up a cabinet empty and i am told that the length is 57 inches long and 21 inches wide. this doesnt leave me much in the way of choices in monitors. i am also amazed the people on here that can make a 35 inch monitor fit .i wonder if the length is shorter.any suggestions on how long the cabinet should be if i have it built?for instance should a 35 or 40 inch monitor only be 50 inches or so?I want it to maintain as close to a real cabinet as i can. thanks

See this for the dimensions of regular cab....

the 21 inch wide would measure from the inside of the sides on a standard cab...
for 21 inch you're best bet is a 37inch LCD. a 40 inch LCD may work if you cut the top of the cab away and rest it. with a 37 inch LCD with no bezel you have about 5mm to spare on either side. A monitor of this size is substantially shorter than a real machine. You have two options... keep the same angle of the top of the cabinet and just shorten the cabinet to fit. Or have a large bezel inside the cab. Look at the examples and you'll get an idea.

Removal of the bezel is easy (not much time but you will probably void your warranty): see - http://pinacolada.danielpotter.com/tv-bezel-removal-guide

Where did you acquire an empty cab? Is there a site that sells empty cabs?

I checked with a company which sells/rents pinball machines and they had a couple for sale. I think Iīll go this way because you get the playfield glass, legs, coindoor and lockdown bar for a good price. Havenīt asked them for the price as they told me to come and see for myself. But my guess is around 300-400 $US. Pretty sweet if thatīs the case!

Yup second hand cabs are a good deal IF you can find one that isn't too worn. But fresh paint and a bit of care can fix all that a lot cheaper than buying new parts... However, with a chrome finish not so easy so depends on what u want.

Check the google rec pinball group. I got a free empty cab from a guy on there. I just had to go pick it up. I didnt actually use the cab, for my pinball machine, but i did use it to measure out so I could cut brand new plywood and see how a real cab is put together.
