Hey everyone,
I am about to begin designing a full upright cabinet from scratch.

The features of the cab:
2 players - each with 8 buttons and a 8 way joystick. Plus 2 extra buttons for start/select.
Also considering a trackball in the middle of the two. But depending on budget when building, may not include this.
The cab will be using the Hyperspin FE of course, with multiple emulators on it. Fully customized to the way I like it.

I am still yet to decide on many things, like the controller layout, but am experimenting with some drawings to see what looks better. I am also undecided on the name of the cab, and the art on the actually cab itself.

One idea I do have is to name it Red vs Blue. And have 1st player controls all red, and 2nd player controls all blue. Then with matching art across the cab.

If anyone has any ideas/suggestions or advice, it would be greatly appreciated. This will take a long time to complete as I am busy alot, but I also want to get this exactly the way I want.

UPDATE:

I have decided I will be building a desktop arcade controller first, that is 2-player until i have the resources to build the full cabinet. This control panel will be incorporated into the final cabinet.

You may want to think about a Tankstick. I just bought one, and they are great! It has all the features you are mentioning, plus a trackball, and buttons on the side for video pinball! for $200.00. The parts you are looking for alone will be around $200.00. The Tankstick has a lifetime warranty, and is built like a tank! Save yourself some headaches and get a Tansktick! Xarcade even offers an upright cabinet that the Tankstick slides into. If you look on Ebay you may get lucky and find one for less than $200. I got mine on Ebay from a guy that was going to use it in a cabinet, but never used it because his funds for his project fell through. I got mine for 180.00 with free shipping.

I bought my Tankstick for $200 from X-Arcade and I couldn't be more pleased. I ended up gutting out the buttons and joysticks and stuffed in the Real Arcade parts. Happ Competition Buttons and two Euro IL Joysticks. It feels alot better and looks good too. I changed the buttons to Red, White and Black to match the X-Arcade logo.

Yeah dude X-Arcade Tankstick is defiantly the way to go! I got mine a couple of months ago for $250 CAN and I am very happy with it, it's a really great CP just make sure you get both USB adapters for the trackball and the sticks and buttons. I mounted my Tankstick to my old Shinobi cabinet I am currently working on. It's a great way to get a CP installed especially if your new to Arcade cabinet making...

good luck to you

cheers!

Been busy, brewing beer and making some artwork for my room(nothing special). Waiting for the new hyperspin to get me remotivated, did however try some side artworks out with my girlfriend who is really into designing a Mario brothers/donkey kong themed side arts.
