Hello all, here are some shots of a cab I bought for $250 (After I gutted and touched it up a little... very little).

Due to the cab not being an original and having a lot of "rigged" wiring, I've decided not to Restore it but rather MAME/HyperSpin it.

This also leaves me with the original guts (Robotron 2084), which I plan to sell soon.

Sorry for the low-quality pictures, they were taken from my phone. :)

I like the cab. The style is alot like mine. You should be able to stuff a nice big 21' or 22' flat crt in there that will work real nice. Unless your going with the arcade monitor, I have no experience with that.

Is this your first cab?

Yeah, first cab. 22" would fit fine (I plan on going LCD just for the sake of convenience though), the default that was in there was a broken 19" arcade monitor (4:3 aspect ratio).

Wow. Has it really been 4 months already? Where has the time gone?

Here's some updates.

Removed multiple layers of paint from the sides (There was like 3 layers of paint, each containing different art.... Defender, then Robotron, then all black). I didn't want to remove the black because it was painted really well (much better then I could do), but the guy I bought it from badly damaged some sections of it when he was working to pull it off and see what art was underneath.

New coin mechs installed (.984 Tokens), new coin locks.

I removed the Marquee bottom as I am getting a new flourescent light for it, as well as fixing up the speakers. The cab was poorly designed in that they have a really large grille there, with a slab of wood covering the whole thing except a really small hole in the center.

Artwork has already been ordered from http://www.mamemarquees.com (Love Scott's work in all the examples I've seen).

Instead of a new fluorescent light; I would highly suggest the Nova Matrix from GroovyGameGear.com. They are LED based and look really nice. I removed my fluorescent and added 2 of these LED strips and they are nice and bright.

Small update: Artwork arrived from Mamemarquee's today and was just ordered on Tuesday. VERY fast shipping and excellent quality. (~4 days!)

Will take pictures once I get everything going. Still waiting for the groovygamer nova matrix' which will arrive on Monday. Atleast I can complete the wiring portion now! :D

Here are some pictures after today's work of installing the nova matrix and speakers, as well as wiring it all up in inside the marquee. The red/white wires you see there are go to the nova matrix.

As for the cp, nothing is wired up yet, as I've only just installed the art, cut out the holes for everything, then installed/fastened the buttons. Wiring will occur tomorrow.

Next step: Need to get a Bezel made! Monitor going in soon as well, it's a 19" 4:3 monitor, same as what came out.

Looking real good man. I'm pretty sure you will like the Nova Matrix over a standard fluorescent light. The LED light just seems much nicer and also uses less power.

What frontend are you planning on using? AtomicFE using the HyperSkin would look great in there. :bootyshake:

Oh yes, with every single one of the "HyperSpin" I mean, "Hyperskin" themes available.

I used AtomicFE once and never again! Love HS too much. :)

Just an update. Finished the CP / coin door wiring and have begun the inside stuff.

And the final update of the night.

Computer parts all wired up. Just need to re-think how I want the hard-drives inside. Smart Strip installed so I can add more stuff in the future (betabrite, monitor, etc). Still awaiting the new monitor (should be here in a few days).

Marquee and Coin Door lights = wired up, custom made ethernet cord to fit my needs (I love networking tools, so handy).

Definitely can't wait to fire this thing up. Getting anxious now.

[edit]
Did a "powerup" test of the marquee and coin door. One lights dead (will replace with LED's eventually as per Dazz' suggestion) and I will pickup a replacement tomorrow for looks. F****** beautiful. Enough said.

Got Street Fighter IV?

Nice Lash, did you get the 2nd player controls working mate?

Lashek

Kinda not really? :D

The keys work, but they control player 1 as well as player 2. Minor detail and is probably me not setting up the x360 ini file up properly.

Make sure that both players "Keyboard settings" are blank. Thats probably why thats happening.

Make sure to set all your keyboard keys in the SF4 menu to NO FUNCTION.

Over a year since the last post, and my Cab has been down since about may-ish of this year, but an update is an update.

Got the cab back up and running with the old parts (After replacing my pc) and finally begun work on adding the two monitors courtesy of BBB.

See below (and please excuse the mess - it's a temporary storage room).

The game-screen is going to be the same as the monitor above, but this is just a dry-fit of the "Monitor Marquee" that has been widely discussed. I have only 1 5/16" on each side of the monitor (I could probably have gone a step higher in size if I wanted to, but choose not to).

As a byproduct of this, I now have a vinyl printing of "MAME" from GameOnGrafix (as seen in other pictures) as well as two Nova Matrix LED bars ( Old style as seen here: http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=69374.0 ) if anyone needs.

Test-fit was great, so I had to extend 8 wires due to the way things changed, and it looks great. My only complaint is brightness, I'm curious if I screwed something up when I wired it. Need to review my splices to ensure tightness as it appears only one set of backlighting is on.

I used Google Chrome to display a test image in this shot, and the bluriness is due to loss of focus while snapping the shot since it's a constantly animated theme.

Also spray painted the plastic cover for the marquee to hide the sides, but I broke the metal frame that runs across the top when cutting it out for monitor. :(

Need to think up something new that will work to hide the top portion or order a replacement metal strip.

I wanted to do the upper monitor with mine and have the top half of the screen display the current game or system marquee and the bottom half of the screen display the controls for that game. Of course its a lot of work so I haven't gotten that far yet. But your setup is sweet. Great job!
