Sorry for the lack of updates the last couple weeks or so, but Ive been really busy redoing the theme code for the new zip theme support and cleaning up all the animation code to have everything run alot cleaner.

There are now several hundred possible animations for my new backgrounds. I just added one new artwork animation and did some cleanup on the other animations.

I also added a new feature called interstitial backgrounds. It was an ultracade feature that I always liked. What it does is load intermediat backgrounds between themes. When you land on a theme, it quickly loads an intermediate background real fast before loading the normal theme background. It makes the themes a little more active feeling. And if you move of a theme while the background is still animating in, chances are the intermediate backgruond had already loaded so you basically dont see the previous themes background while scrolling through the wheel. You'll just have to wait to try it out. I like it alot.

Now this next feature I really like alot. Scanlines have been a suggested feature for a while, so this morning I went ahead and added the feature. jeepguy posted what I think is the mame scanline effect files for me to check out and I hope we can find out who made them so I can include them with HS.

You can use small pattern images that will fill the screen. I give you the option in the settings to choose your scanline effect file, I also give you the ability to set the transparnecy of the effect so you can tweek the look, and lastly I give you the option of scanline scaling size. This is important since that scaling is whats going to really make the effect pop. You'll have to play with the scale to get your perfect look.

I upped the alpha slightly so that you can see the examples better, so dont mind if the images are a little opaque.

While I doubt I'll personally use the scanlines feature I do think it's very cool and can certainly appreciate its importance.

The intermediate background sounds like gold though for me. Any chance you could post a quick youtube video of that in action?

I'll see about getting a video up soon of the intermediate backgrounds. I am going to toy with blend modes tonight to add an extra option that I think might make the scanlines yet even more realistic. Blend modes are like what you see in photoshop layers, thinks like Darken, Hard Light, Overlay, etc... This will actually give more effect the lower layers pixels rather than alpha fading the scanlines over top of everything. I have some good hopes of testing later, but you never know. Im hoping for more vibrant colors while still having scanlines at the same time.

Sweet !!!!

Will the intermedite background (a feature I've suggested some time ago) display while browsing the wheel, or will it display only when you "land" on a theme ?

It will display while browsing the wheel.

It displays for a split second when you land on a theme before the noraml background loads in. If you move off that theme before the themes normal background finishes its animation then that themes animation animates out and you see the interstitial background while spinning the wheel. If you land on a theme and move off that theme before the interstitial finishes its animation then you see the previous games theme when spinning the wheel.

Something interesting I found last week by accident. If you happen to have a pair of prescription sunglasses or just polarized lenses, you probably already know that they do funny things with LCD monitors and viewing angles.

If you pump your mame resolution on a LCD display at 1920 resolution and use a 25% scanline filter, it creates a slight flicker that normally isn't that noticable. However, if you put on those polarized eyewhere, the lenses filter that out, creating a fricken awesome effect on how your eyes view it.

This is how 3D HD blurays and 3d theme park rides work that make you wear those silly grey polarized lenses. It will make it feel like you could place your hand through the screen. After Burner and Space Harrier are really sweet, and 2D fighters are given a lot of field depth.

Tried it on mame and genesis built in scanline filters

That's because I made their themes which makes them instantly awesome. hehe

I have a question, It's possible on the new version to keep the scanline on the emulateurs hasn't got this option as Demul for atomiswave.
Or only active for the hyperspin menu ?

BadBoyBill
