View Full Version : Using a MAME snap instead of the Video

With the MAME themes (or any other emulator for that matter), if an FLV video file isn't found for a particular MAME game, is there a way of getting HyperSpin to display the corresponding snap png in place of it?

I've a feeling that I had HyperSpin set up to do this before, but I've been so out of the loop that I figured I'd better start again from scratch here.

I was hoping that Bill could implement snaps in the video folder and have HS look for the .flv, if no .flv is present then use .png/.gif/.jpg.

Unfortunately there is not a way currently, but you can put the snap images into one of your Artwork folders. You can then position the snap location the same place as your video location. This way if there is not a video, the screen will show. You might go as far as putting the snap in Artwork1 and make it the same size and position as the video. This way if there is a video it will hide the snap in the background.

I didnt add snap support because I never thought people would actually use them, I guess though since emumovies is a pay/donate site and might not have a torrent anytime soon that there might be a need for video snaps. Your method should work dazz but I think that would eliminate video overlays and the timings would be different on everyones computer depending on their speed. I'll see about adding this feature in a future release.

Do we have a feature request thread? I need to have something like that to track these kinds of requests so that I dont forget.

Great, this will be pretty useful for me. Not that everything requested will be implimented but my ears are open.

I do plan on keeping a hyperspin torrent available to be updated as the .flv videos are released. Unfortunately like always nintendo videos will most likely only be easily obtainable from the FTP.

Any idea on when the videos will be uploaded to the FTP guys?

i can see about getting these vids uploaded asap to emumovies, paulstevens heads the mame set which is done, you met him on saturday, ill see if he can start a transfer as soon as he can, this will be a HQ horizontal/vertical merged set. We will base our themes on this set.

Well as soon as MAME gets upped I will get the torrent going. I have today and tomorrow off work, so I am fixing the SNES set so that it is complete and named in the LATEST No-Intro format :) Unlike a wiley NES set that was just released doh! And I should proably apologize to Paul for stealing you guys for so long at CAX lol.

Heh no worries. The MAME merged set I have is an older torrent, not the one you just released a few weeks ago. It has 2580 or so files. I'll see about starting an ftp upload today, if I can remember my account logon :-)

Careful I think his FTP set is more recent than the torrent. But I could be wrong, also.

If your(circo) already renaming console vid's to no intro then that helps out a ton over here since we wont have to do alot of renaming ourselves. Theres a slight overlap between our sets and yours.

We do include Euro games that were not US released since they are english games and im not sure if you do those or not, but we do remove everything from our dat as far as prototypes, test carts etc... Basically our xml's and dats end up being a clean US/EU set minus all the extras. If we do have to end up recording Europe games thats no big deal.

Right. I have the latest torrent (June 18 or so) completed, so I'm up to date torrent-wise but will check FTP site for dates of files released AFTER the June18 torrent date, in my effort to create the most up to date set possible.

I also probably won't ftp to circo until after I reconvert the files with a hopefully smaller file size as discussed. I'll begin experimenting tonight.

Thats great.

We had discussed going down to "NORMAL" compression vs "SUPERB", 15fps vs 30fps and 22khz sound vs 44khz sound to make the files smaller, you probably wont notice a difference to much except a smaller file size.

Pay close attention to the data rate...especially for audio. It can add up quickly if you are using a high rate.
