Hi guys,
I am currently running a hacked version of Win XP in my cab that uses a dummy key that won't activate for updating purposes. Therefore I am still running XP Service Pack 1.
Things seems to work okay but if it is certain that SP3 would improve my performance then I will break down and buy a full version of XP.
Does anyone know the facts?
Thanks,
Nos.

hi mate, i have xp sp3 and windows 7 64 duel boot, when i use hyperspin on xp it has verybad slowdown on start up, i would recommend windows7 as i have not found any problems so far with hyperspin or any emulators and i use lots of them,
i would not spend any money on xp as its outdated now and windows 7 is the future (some people may disagree :))

Hey azzbarb,
I have Windows 7 on my laptop and it works great but I wasn't sure if Hyperpin worked on Win 7.
You mentioned "Hyperspin". Do you have a "Hyperpin" pinball cabinet that runs on Win 7??

I say XP SP3 if it is for a Single purpose (FP, VP, HP) standalone cab. Windows 7 would be a close 2nd choice. The reasons I believe this are many, but i will list a few.
Numerous head to head test by magazine and web sites have shown that for single threaded applications such (VP and FP are single threaded), XP is still about 4 to 7 percent faster than Win 7.
Windows 7 has approx 26 more processes running in the background than XP, and a larger memory footprint. Yes Win 7 can address more than 3 GB of system memory, but as of now the most you will ever use in a dedicated pincab < 2GB. Why have all these extra processes running when you don't need them? Yes I know you can disable them if you want to and know how. Win XP is also less expensive. Basically what I'm saying is if you want a lean, mean pinball machine, you will gain nothing by using Win7, and for every person who says win7 is fine, I see 2 with problems using it in their cab. By the way I use Windows 7 on my main computer and am basically happy with it. I do all my testing with new tables, UVPs, etc. before I load onto my cab with XP SP3. Both have Core 2 duo 2.93ghz and GTS250's. My FPS on my cab is always 4% faster at a minimum. On Monoploy it is about 8% faster.

I've used Hyperpin and VP/FP on Windows XP Service pack 1,2 and 3. I couldn't see any significant difference in any of them. I'd just stick with what you've got.

I started with win7 but for me with 3 monitor setup is a disaster.
I have passed to xp sp3 and all is perfect.
By the way i am not very skilled on win7 so the difficulyies coukd be only mine.
