View Full Version : New Download Section - Editors Choice Themes

I have setup a new area in the downloads section. This new area is called Editors Choice Themes. The themes contained within this area are themes that were created by users, but have caught the eye of the HyperSpin Team. These themes are considered to be exceptional themes.

In order for a theme to be placed into this area the HyperSpin staff will put each nomination to a private vote. If the team believes that the theme deserves to be in the Editors Choice we will have the theme moved to this new category.

I have a couple ideas that might get theme creators the incentive to clean up images and basically go that extra mile to have their theme(s) added to the Editors Choice.

Any questions?

cool, thanks..
any chance of adding Daphne and other emulators to the themes section? When you goto upload a theme, it only gives you two options.

Feel free to add whatever themes you need to upload. If we don't have a section created for it yet, I will create one as needed.

BTW - I added Daphne yesterday as we had a pending theme that needed to be added.

I fine all these sections for themes to be confussing. Why not just make one section and then some symbol next to it as to what is what. Right now most people are looking to get as many themes as they can installed in HS so they can play games. For me, I find it hard to keep track of what I have, what is out there and what I need.

I wish there was some way to see what I am missing too.

I am also still trying to understand the overal goal here.

Is the goal to have a complete "team theme" for every game whether a user has created it or not?

Q, you can do what I do...

Every day or every other day go to the two sections (user created/team created) click on the date, and that will sort them out newest to oldest. Then I pick the ones I want or didn't have.

And I believe that the Editors choice is chosen from the user created... so there really is no need to go there unless curious.

While it's true that the Editor's choice themes come from the user created section - they are moved out of it I believe and no longer appear there. So do need to check the editor's choice section every once in a while.

Could an admin confirm that please?

So I guess it is best to just stick with the team and editor’s choice ones. Like I said, I am still trying to understand what the overall goal is of the team ones. If that is to be the definitive collection of themes or what… I see some people have created themes the team has already done. I guess what I am looking for is the best of the best and a way to sort them. It would be nice if the theme installer coming out would keep track of what is out there or at least what is installed on my system that way it would be easier to see where I stand.

Best of the best: that's a very subjective thing. Someone may prefer one version of kangaroo and I'd like the other. I personally recommend the pokemon method. Get 'em all :), try them out and then make your own personal choice. The only way to be sure you don't miss out on something cool.

Yeah I hear ya. It would be nice though if there was some way to keep track of them.

I can confirm that they are moved... Also I too would like an eay way to tell If I have a theme of not.. Maybe there is a way to track this per user and monitor what you have/have not downloaded. Like a Star can be put next to themes you have downloaded.

Ill talk to billy and dazz about that.

I agree a tracking system should be in order and it should not be signified with a penis icon.

Although it is a bit spread out right now, its not really that bad. You will a few duplicates between users and team HS. Most of the time its because they were made around the same time.

I think there are better ways to list the themes out, but I'm sure that'll get better with time.

I would just list them all alphabetically then just bold and put a gold star next to them or something for editors choice. Then show icons for different systems within the same row for themes that can be used for different systems. Like an arcade cabinet for mame, and console icons like nes, genesis, sms, etc.

For example, there shouldn't be a reason to download, host, and keep track of 3+ different bionic commando themes (one for MAME, NES, GB, and GBC)

Well, I might not be 100% correct because I still can't really use HS, but I think I might at least give you guys some ideas if you do decide to change something someday.

I agree, all themes should be listed together alphabetically.
