Imagine not firing up hyperspin for a month, then you do one day, and upon fireup it states:

"Their are 89 new themes available, would you like to download them now and autoinstall them?"

Yes, I am dreaming, but that would be sweet.

Gotta agree with that, auto-installs would be indeed freakin great. Potential server killer though.

Actually this was talked about long ago... It is do able, but Bill would be the one to have to program something like that. Unless someone from the community was willing to take on such a project...

I would rather see updates to HS and HT but come out with theme packs so people can catch up if they havent been current...which in the context of this forum is only a couple of days!!

Well, what ever the auto updates would be. it should be for donators. you know, for band width and stuff. I'm not one now, but i will be.....someday.

We had a discussion about doing this a while back but we decided against going that route. I dont think I could afford a file server that would take on such a task and it would be alot more programming that could be spent doing other things. What we ended up deciding is what your doing now, we will continue to update the torrent when we can, having someone in charge of that is a big task in its own. We can also release installable theme packs like billpa suggested which could be easy for anyone to put together, it would just be a zip file that you can extract into your media directory for that system. Personally I like picking and choosing the themes I use on my installation, even though theres alot of themes, I don't use them all, not every theme is good quality so we leave the choice up to you.

But theme collecting is like ROM collecting and Pokemon. We gotta catch them all!

haha - so true. I update mine daily. I've got all the themes with the exception where there is more than 1 theme for a single game... then I've got to choose one which I hate doing!

I agree on the collection, can't control myself!

Bah, the big hassle isn't downloading them, it's installing the buggers. I believe I read Hypertheme will include the ability to install them and especially add the entry to the mame.xml? Is that's the case, most of this pain in the butt process will become a non-issue.

Yup that is on the horizon.

Me personally, I havent really had time to download new themes...only a few. Been too busy with work and when I do have free time, I am making themes.

I guess you would have to download them all because of the file structure. But that shouldnt be a problem in the future once HT has the ability to uninstall themes that you might not want.

For now, I would have them all just because I like the wheel populated and I know how much work goes into these little buggers. They are very addictive too!

if their was a pay version of Hyperspin, I would definitely pay $25 for a version that did this, and the free version can be the "by hand" version.

anyways, either way, its all good
